It was hectic, it was hot, the football was challenging, the billets were great – and Jordy Annand wouldn’t have missed it for the world. The 2018 Football tour to the United States and Canada was unforgettable for all the right reasons, not least the football, with College winning three games, drawing three, and losing two. Chris Needle and Matt Cortesi, travelled to seven schools playing eight games. “Apart from the games themselves, the highlights were being billeted in homes, embracing the culture and getting to know the American families,” says Jordy, centre mid- fielder for the 1st XI, who was in Year 12 at the time. “They were so nice and welcoming and hospitable. One guy, Connor Alexander in Richmond, Virginia, is planning to come out here. When we first met, he said ‘This is usually quite awkward, but I’m going to
treat you as one of my mates’, and we got along really well. That was the best part of the trip, having an opportunity to meet people that you wouldn’t normally have, if you toured any other way.” The opposition teams were similar in standard to the College team, he said. “We’d been expecting them to be bigger and more physical than us, but we were fairly evenly matched.
