Similarly, about half of the parents said that CWU was at least an “acceptable fit” for their son/daughter, “given your child’s interests and situation,” including: 8% who said CWU would be an “excellent” fit; 11% who said “good” fit; and 28% who said it would be “acceptable.” There were differences about whether students would consider CWU according to: • Grade point average: 66% of students with GPAs under 3.5 could at least see themselves at CWU whereas 61% of students with GPAs over 3.5 would not consider applying. • Family college experience: 63% of those in households where no one had gone to college could at least see themselves at CWU, whereas 57% of those with at least one parent who had gone to college, and 54% of those with a sibling who had, would not consider it. • Income: 58% of those in households with incomes under $50,000 could at least see themselves at CWU, whereas 74% of those in households with incomes over $100,000 would not consider it. • Ethnicity: 61% of Hispanic students would consider CWU while 71% of Asians and 53% of Caucasians would not. • Geography: 56% of those from Eastern Washington and 57% from Western Washington outside the Puget Sound counties could at least see themselves at CWU, compared to 49% in Puget Sound outside King County. However, 64% of those inKing County would not consider CWU. Parents displayed a similar pattern in their orientation to CWU. Parents most likely to see CWU as a “good” or “excellent” fit for their son/daughter were: • Parents of students with lower GPAs (32% with under a 3.5 v. 14% of those with a 3.5 or above); • Residents of Eastern Washington (28% v. 13% in King County); and • Parent who had attended a public college in Washington (25%) or who had not attended college (25%) v. 11% who had gone out of state and/or to a private college themselves. Image of CWU by Inclination to Apply Segregating the descriptions of CWU by inclination to apply there illustrates the relationship between the image of Central and the orientation to it. For students who have or will apply, as well as the parents who saw CWU as a good fit for their child, the highest scoring attributes were: welcoming and friendly, comfortable, attractive campus, and focused on teaching. The parents also were likely to describe it as fun, challenging, a top choice and in a good location.
