THE LAND OF OPPORTUNITY
I wanted to become a doctor for most of my childhood. In high school, I learned about Mock Trial, an activity where high school teams compete against each other and argue cases. I quickly became passionate about arguing for what was right and improving people’s lives. I loved the process so much that by the time I was 18 years old, I started working for attorneys.

As an immigration attorney, I get to help people build new lives and better futures for themselves. For me, one of the most important aspects of working in immigration law is that I am in a place to empower people to move forward, grow, and achieve their dreams. I am here to get one major obstacle — acquiring legal status — out of the way so that they focus on what really matters: their families, careers, and the lives they really want to live. The sacrifices my parents made to bring me to this country were not in vain. Those sacrifices put me on the road to becoming an attorney, and as an attorney, I have been able to help hundreds of people achieve their own dreams. My dream is for our clients’ children to become the products of their parents’ sacrifices in coming to the United States, just like myself and the Solano Law Firm team. Through those sacrifices, I hope they too will accomplish something great.
As I took my first steps into the world of law, I began to see a need within the Latino community. They needed legal representation from people who really cared about their cases and understood how the outcome of the case would forever change their lives. I made it my mission to fix this. I’m the daughter of two immigrants. I believe America is still the land of opportunity; there are many opportunities here that you cannot get anywhere else in the world. I also believe that immigrants, like natural- born Americans, should have access to those opportunities and be able

Yo quería ser médico durante la mayor parte de mi infancia. Somewhere along the line, our society accepted bullying as a social norm for children. “How can kids learn to cope with the real world if they can’t handle a bully?” is a common misguided justification. Kids who don’t meet the standards of what they are socially expected to be aren’t accepted among their peers. Rather, they are treated like emotional punching bags for anyone deemed more culturally acceptable. But the life of a child is truly a special force in this world, and just because someone differs from physical, social, or cultural normativity doesn’t give anyone the right to treat them poorly. Differences should be celebrated, and bullying needs to be eradicated. The best way we can start is by making an effort to notice bullying and put a stop to it. Here are three warning signs. Headaches and Stomach Aches Anxiety is an emotional complex that tends to manifest itself in physical ways. If you notice your child has stress-related symptoms like headaches, ask them about their emotional well-being. An open-ended question like, “I’ve noticed you haven’t been feeling well a lot lately, can you tell me more about that?” will help open lines of communication. Change in Friends There are bound to be changes in friend groups throughout your child’s life, but that doesn’t mean parents shouldn’t take notice when this happens. IS YOUR CHILD BEING BULLIED? Warning Signs You Can’t Ignore
When a child expresses disinterest in spending time with specific people, it could be a sign of bullying. Connecting with other parents who have children in the same circle could be a way to gauge the pulse of your child’s friend group. Confidence Issues Bullying has the potential to drop kids into a volatile cycle of confidence- killing self-talk. Bullying may produce external damage, but what goes on internally can be catastrophic for children. The continually progressing, technology-based environment our children live in nearly outpaces their ability to adjust and cope. Children often internalize their emotions, and when they are being bullied by someone online, their distress can be even harder to detect. The best way to be aware of how your children are feeling is to talk to them openly about their social interactions both online and offline. Summer is the perfect opportunity to discuss these issues with your child because they likely will be relaxed, comfortable, and out of school, where bullying often occurs. Then they can approach the new school year with confidence and self-worth. What parent doesn’t want that?

En algún momento, nuestra sociedad aceptó la intimidación y acoso “bullying” como una norma social para los niños. “¿Cómo pueden aprender los niños a lidiar con el mundo real si no pueden manejar el acoso ‘bully’ escolar?” es una justificación equivocada común. Los niños que no cumplen con los estándares de lo que se espera que sean socialmente no son aceptados entre sus compañeros. Más bien, son tratados como sacos de boxeo emocionales para cualquiera que se considere más aceptado culturalmente. IMMIGRATION AND INCARCERATION You Have Rights
More and more immigrants are being incarcerated. The Trump administration has made it a point to jail undocumented immigrants before deporting them. They are using aggressive tactics to arrest and deport as many people as possible, including hardworking parents of U.S. citizen children, people without criminal records, Dreamers, and longtime community members with pending applications to become legal. Immigration detention centers are filling, families are being separated, and those same families don’t know what to do or where to go for help. Under the Obama administration, the majority of immigrants without legal status who had no criminal history were protected and had legal options. There were fewer arrests and, as a result, fewer deportations. Fewer families were being separated. Now, the Trump administration is enforcing the immigration laws much closer to the way they are written and creating policies to undo the benefits granted under the Obama administration. Earlier this year, the Supreme Court ruled that immigrants could be held without a bond hearing. This included immigrants with permanent legal status and those seeking asylum. More recently, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said it would no longer release pregnant women from jail. They will only be released on a “case-by-case basis.” Furthermore, rather than keeping parents and young children together at a Refugee Center when apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border, ICE is sending the parents to a detention center and releasing the children to family members or keeping the children in a Refugee Center without their parents.

It is a shame and an injustice that families with children, Dreamers, and people who have jobs, own businesses, and are contributing to this country must now constantly worry that they could be arrested and deported. These people should not be targeted for enforcement. These policies and others have caused a lot of frustration, fear, and hopelessness among immigrants. When it comes to incarceration, whether it’s you or a family member, you have rights. You can petition for a bond hearing so that you are released from jail, and you can fight against your deportation. These immigration policies highlight the importance of working with an immigration attorney, someone who is experienced in handling these types of cases. Cada día más inmigrantes están siendo encarcelados. La administración de Trump se esta enfocando en encarcelar a inmigrantes indocumentados antes de deportarlos. Están utilizando tácticas agresivas para arrestar y deportar a tantas personas como sea posible, incluidos los padres trabajadores de ciudadanos estadounidenses, personas sin antecedentes penales, soñadores y miembros de la comunidad desde hace mucho tiempo con solicitudes pendientes para convertirse en legales.
