The Salvation Army is setting up in the Clarence-Rockland area. The international non-profit service group, known to many as “the Sally Ann”, now has an arrangement with the City of Clarence-Rockland to set up three of its thrift store donation bins within themunicipality. The bins will be set up at the city landfill, at 2335 Lalonde Road in Bourget. Before, the nearest Salvation Army dona- tion bin to Clarence-Rockland was on Innes Road in Orléans. “The City of Clarence-Rockland is proud of its partnership with the Salvation Army Thrift Store,” stated mayor Guy Desjardins in a news release. “We are contributing to increasing the life span of our landfill site in addition to helping an organization in its mission of helping the less fortunate.” The aid group announced its new pres- ence in the Clarence-Rockland area dur- ing the annual Spring Clean-Up, over the May 6 weekend, when residents could bring particular discard items to the landfill for disposal without paying a drop-off fee. Under the arrangement with the City, the Salvation Army bins will be available for drop off every Friday and Saturday, for almost- new or gently-used clothing, household goods, furniture, and other items that might otherwise end up in the landfill.
