Surprise soccer night visitor
Still cruisin’ the Dub
It was just the usual fun Tuesday night for the U6 soccer kids at Dutrisac Park in Rockland. Until a surprise visitor stopped by to check out the action. Sparky, the Ottawa Fury mascot, stole the show from the coaches for awhile as he posed for photos with his little fans before heading on back to his own clubhouse. The Rockland United Soccer Club’s 11 th Annual Soccer and Fitness Festival highlights the end of the local youth soccer season, in mid-August, with two days of games and other activities over the August 13 weekend at the Canadian International Hockey Academy soccer fields. —photo Duane Rudeen

PLANIFICATION DES AMÉLIORATIONS COMMUNAUTAIRES SECTEUR COMMERCIAL CENTRE-VILLE, RUE LAURIER Salle de spectacle Optimiste 1535, Avenue du Parc, Rockland Jeudi 1 er septembre 2016 19h à 21h QU'EST-CE QU'UN PLAN D’AMÉLIORATIONS COMMUNAUTAIRES? • Un plan d'améliorations communautaires est un outil qui permet à une municipalité de diriger des fonds et mettre en œuvre des initiatives stratégiques vers une zone de projet spécifiquement défini. Il vise à encourager les propriétaires à améliorer l'apparence de leurs propriétés et des bâtiments conformément aux lignes directrices adoptées par le Conseil. • Une fois mis en œuvre, le plan permet aux municipalités d’offrir une aide fiscale, des subventions ou des prêts pour aider à la remise en état des propriétés et/ou des bâtiments dans la zone définie dans le Plan d'améliorations communautaires (rue Laurier centre-ville). POURQUOI UN PLAN D’AMÉLIORATIONS COMMUNAUTAIRES? • Les plans d'améliorations communautaires (PAC) sont développés pour répondre aux défis de la gestion de la croissance, l'intensification, l'efficacité énergétique, le développement à usages mixtes et de transit/axé sur le vélo ainsi que l'accessibilité et les nouveaux besoins d'un vieillissement de la génération du baby-boom. Certaines municipalités utilisent des plans d'améliorations communautaires comme une incitation pour encourager le développement qui répond aux normes reconnues de l'environnement, tels que LEED®, tandis que d'autres les utilisent pour attirer différents types d'usages. WHAT IS A COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT PLAN? • A Community Improvement Plan is a tool that allows a municipality to direct funds and implement policy initiatives toward a specifically defined project area. It is intended to encourage property owners to improve the appearance of their lands and buildings in accordance with guidelines adopted by Council. • Once implemented, the plan allows municipalities to provide tax assistance, grants or loans to assist in the rehabilitation of lands and/or buildings within the defined Community Improvement Project Area (Laurier Street core area) WHY IS A COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT PLAN A GOOD TOOL? • Community Improvement Plans (CIP) are being developed to address growth management challenges, intensification, energy efficiency, mixed-use and transit/bicycle oriented development, accessibility, and the emerging needs of an aging baby-boom generation. Some municipalities are using community improvement plans as an incentive for encouraging development that meets recognized environmental standards, such as LEED®, while others use them to attract certain kinds of employment uses.
