The value we attach to COP28 reflects our active choice and firm commitment to protecting the environment, leading a sustainable life, and limiting the impact of climate change. We believe that a strong collective will and determination can empower us to protect our planet, and advance sustainability. Nations with deep and widespread general knowledge of sustainability also see its creative community showing strong support for the cause in their artistic expressions. We cannot be content with the methods that have been used to date to combat climate change. The campaign for protecting our planet must use all media, art forms, and innovation available, and we must widen the scope of research, taking advantage of Artificial Intelligence. With our ambitious leadership pushing the limits of human endeavour, Abu Dhabi has become a global destination of innovation, and a shining example of a relentless pursuit of knowledge. The UAE capital remains steady on its growth path, with thoughtful sustainability embedded in its long-term vision. Our leadership has made possible the achievements we have today, by providing us with the inspiration and igniting our passion for doing our part in translating the country’s goals into reality. The arts have a leading role in promoting sustainability, whether in terms of visual or performing arts, music or any other artistic expression. The arts thrive largely due to the support of our nation’s leaders, and their recognition of importance of the arts in expressing our thoughts and inspiring action across generations. At Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation, we have always endorsed the role of the artist, writer, composer, and poet in promoting environmental awareness and sustainability. We believe in their effectiveness in reaching the hearts and minds of the people.

One example is an art exhibition we organised in Umm Al Emarat Park in Al-Dhafra in 2017 under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra region, and in partnership with the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi. Titled ‘Nature: Creativity and Innovation’, the event enabled 20 artists to urge viewers to protect the environment and celebrate biodiversity. Artworks showcased the unique beauty and characteristics of wildlife in the UAE. This included falcons, bustards, and gazelles in their natural habitat, which ranged from vast desert dunes and sheltered wadis to mangrove forests, sidra groves and ghaf trees, exposing the beauty of the Emirates, from the golden coasts and charming archipelagos to the high mountains in the northern and eastern parts of the country. Another major exhibition, ‘Portrait of a Nation II: Beyond Narratives,’ which we organised early last year to celebrate the UAE 50 th National Day, was also a platform to artistically showcase half-a-century of national achievements to create the ultramodern hospitable environment for which the UAE is known.
