Washable diaper program awards first grant
The Township of Russell has presented the first of 10 grants from the washable diaper program. Jasmine Lalonde, mother of four-month- old Adahi Ramirez Lalonde, has received the first $200 grant fromRussell’s newwashable diaper program. In total, 10 grants of $200 will be given out to Russell families. The washable diaper program, the first of its kind in Russell, offers these 10 grants to families who use washable diapers. The programwas designed in order to reduce the number of disposal diapers sent to landfills. Frombirth to potty training, a child will use approximately 6000 disposable diapers.This is equivalent to one tonne of waste. Washable diapers are also more cost- efficient. A family using washable diapers can save up to $1500 per child. “The dia-
per program is just another example of why Russell Township was ranked the 16 th best place to raise kids in Canada byMoneySense Magazine,” shared Mayor Pierre Leroux. To be eligible for the program, the family must be residing in Russell Township, must have a child under six months of age or be expecting a child as of January 1, 2018, and must use washable diapers from the child’s birth to potty training. In addition, the family must also purchase a minimum of 20 new washable diapers during 2018. The dead- line to apply for the remaining nine grants is December 31, 2018. All documentation must be submitted in the first six months after the child’s birth. The application form and additional in- formation are available at www.russell.ca.
