Our Wonderful Resort Full of Amenities

Board of Directors

2

This will be my last article for the Oracle, as my six years on your Board of Directors is coming to an end on March 18 th at our Annual Meeting of Members. Please plan to attend. I wanted my last article to reflect some of the many reasons we all love ORPS and look forward to being here. Of course, the Palm Springs area is well known for its great winter weather; with most winter days having high temperatures in the 70’ s and 80’ s, lots of sunshine, and low humidity. It is such wonderful weather for enjoying all the amenities our Resort offers. We have some fabulous activities here including golf, tennis, pickleball, cornhole, swimming, water aerobics, yoga, fitness and walking classes, quilting, cooking classes, bus trips, Texas Hold ‘ em, and many other card and domino games. We have at least three entertainment events every week at one of our two clubhouses with lots of music, dancing, and variety shows. We have an amazing Fitness Center full of some of the most modern equipment! ORPS also has the convenience of a restaurant and hair salon. I want to take a moment to say how important having all these amenities is to our Resort. Very few of us take the time to utilize all of them, as everyone has their favorites and there are only so many hours in a day. If you don ’ t use the Fitness Center or our restaurant, they are both still very important amenities. Someone is enjoying one of the amenities that you may not use, and it could be one of the main reasons they chose ORPS. We must realize that all these amenities not only enhance our lifestyle and keep us healthy, but also attract renters and future owners while making our Resort the very popular winter destination that it has become. Please consider taking a few copies of the Oracle home with you to share with friends and other RVers. It ’ s a great marketing tool that showcases everything our Resort has to offer. It's been my pleasure to serve as one of your board members and I want to thank you all for the support and kindness you have shown Cheri and me over the years.

ALSO, look for a Safety and Security Committee produced “ Action Card ” in your mailboxes and on social media very soon. It will detail steps you can take to prepare BEFORE a disaster, and what you can do immediately AFTERWARD to keep yourself and your family safe and sound. How to call 911 at ORPS Give the address of the resort - 69411 Ramon Rd and ALWAYS USE a lot number. Your responders don ’ t know all the landmarks, like “ Back Nine Hole 6 Tee Box ”, but they for sure know every lot number. So add “ lot 1092” as you report this event to 911. Just find the closest lot number you can and you ’ ll be good. Dan Hannah Safety & Security Chair As the 2023 - 24 season winds down, I am sure some of you are thinking about making improvements to your lot. It is exciting to see Owners putting their stamp on their lot and making it a place they can enjoy. If you are contemplating improvements before you leave or over the summer, I encourage you to submit your permit(s) as soon as possible. The A&A Committee workload is already quite heavy and our ability to process permits during the summer may take a little longer than normal. Please don ’ t wait until the last minute! As Owners it is our responsibility to be familiar with the rules and regulations that can be found on orps.com. These rules and regulations are in place to ensure a safe environment and that our lots can reflect our individual tastes while maintaining an acceptable aesthetics and architecture across the Resort. We are a unique blend of individuals that all desire a Resort we can be proud of. If you are contemplating any maintenance or improvements to your lot the first step is to determine if you need a permit before starting any work on your lot. NO WORK CAN START PRIOR TO A&A COMMITTEE APPROVAL OF YOUR PERMIT . Please contact Julia, our Compliance Officer, for assistance with your Permit application or to request a consultation with members of the A&A Committee. I am very fortunate to have a great team of volunteers on the Committee who are dedicated to doing what is best for the Resort. They are there for you and will help you get your project approved as stress free as possible. We just welcomed Skip Wimer, Michele Power and Monica Car as new members to the Committee and we continue to look for volunteers to join us. If you re interested please fill out a Committee Interest Form which is available at the Main Office.

Earthquake Planned to Destroy ORPS on March 8th

ORPS is happily nestled between two active earthquake fault lines, the San Andreas and the San Jacinto, so we take our earthquake emergency preparedness seriously. It is estimated a magnitude 7.8 earthquake on the San Andreas would split the Interstate 10 in at least 3 places (delaying assistance and evacuation), water and gas pipes will burst and buildings could collapse. Emergency responders may not get to ORPS for a few days or more. So, we PLAN, PREPARE AND PRACTICE - with our major disaster drill March 8th. The ORPS Emergency Response Team, organized under the Safety and Security Committee, boasts over 30 volunteers. The ERT Team is divided into two groups, Rescue and Medical. There are nurses and firefighters, cops and corporate safety experts, as well as many others on our teams. The ERT will be practicing their skills, as a simulated earthquake strikes ORPS at 9:06 am. At Friday ’ s event, Command and Control will be established at La Palma, and Rescue crews will be dispatched to scour the resort for victims. They will transport the victims to the First Aid Station. They will also note any hazardous conditions as found. Emergency First Aid crews will set up their treatment stations, and begin to treat incoming patients. Radio and Cell communications will be tested as well. An “ After - Action ” meeting will reveal what went well, and what could be improved in our disaster planning and response. A special THANK YOU to the over 30 volunteers who make this event happen! The rest of you, please come out to La Palma to watch, or jump in and help!

Welcome to the busiest time of the golfing community. Well, it ’ s busy for all of us because there ’ s so much going on! You ’ ll see photos from the Sweetheart Tournament where we had over 318 sign ups and a group photo of all the winners from the 3 flights. From left to right there ’ s McGees, A Gross; McCulloughs, A Net; Hydes, C Net; Clements & McClarty, C Gross; Becker & Schram, B Gross; and Ouellette & Gascon, B Net. (Sorry there weren ’ t any from our String Tournament as I had mentioned in my last article; but if you ’ ve seen one toilet seat, you ’ ve seen them all.) I do want to thank our volunteers for their help setting up the bars and those being bartenders; Gourmet Passions for the delicious lunch (They served over 300 lunches in 35 minutes!); help from the Lifestyle staff; and of course, our Golf Committee and Tim Achter for getting this tournament to happen. You know we lost our Golf Coordinator Tanner Bown. He had an offer from the College of the Desert that was too good to pass up. So he ’ s moving up in the world. We wish him the best. We (esp. Phil Sanstrum) are now supporting our interim Golf Coordinator Tim Achter who is very enthusiastic in seeing that our golf community has a good time and that the tournaments run smoothly. We have a week of full Can/Am activities with golf happening on Friday Feb. 23rd. I don ’ t know if I ’ ll be able to tell you which country won since Abby insists I get this article to her by the 17 th . In any case, you ’ ll know the results without me posting it here. March will host the Hole in One Tournament (3/1), the Club Championship (3/8 - 10) -- owners only, and our Farewell Tournament (3/23). And there ’ s a 9 & Wine happening on the 14 th . This season is just flying by! There ’ s a lot of golf still to be played though so keep an eye on all communication. Hope you get a chance to partake in it all. On a serious note, there are 3 vacancies on our Golf Committee for next season. If you want to apply, fill out a Committee Interest Form and return it to the Golf Committee. The Starter Shack will have the forms.

The February Fritters & Fun was held on the 3rd. The game this month was Dingles. There was some very competitive play, as well as a lot of laughter. At the Tennis Committee meeting it was decided by a vote of the tennis community, to alternate monthly the fun social games of tennis that we ’ ve been playing, with round robins. Come join the fun on the 1st Saturday of the month.

Going for the GOLD! The Canadian and American Teams are all geared up for this year's CanAm Games . This year we have 2 levels of play in both the Men ’ s and Women ’ s Doubles,

and 3 levels in the Mixed Doubles. Unfortunately the results were not available for this issue. A heartfelt thank you goes to Lucy and Doug Denham for coordinating all the tennis events for the CanAm Games.

The January Mixer was a very fun event held on the 20th. There were 64 players that competed on 8 courts. Following play, everyone gathered for a Mexican style lunch complete with chicken tacos.

Tennis Spotlight The Tennis Committee Fritters and Fun Coordinator is Karen Forsberg. She wants F&F to be a social event and an opportunity to meet others in the tennis community. She and her husband Jerel, are from Kelowna B.C. They came to visit Janice and Mike Henry in 2018. They bought a lot during that visit. She says they have no regrets. Thank you Karen, for your time on the committee and for keeping it fun.

Thanks to Bud & Kim Krahn for hosting this very fun event!

The Internal Mixed Doubles League that plays on Sunday, has 13 teams in 2 divisions. Thanks to Jane McMeekin for being the league Coordinator. Super Senior Women ’ s Team The USTA team, lead by Marge Nederveld is currently in 3rd place out of 8 teams. Marge has been the captain of this team for 15 years. She likes to tell the team they play for the exercise, the fun, and the food.

Are you drinking enough water to support your body's needs? It's a question many of us ponder, and the answer isn't always straightforward. We've all heard the "drink eight glasses a day" advice, but the truth is, your hydration needs depend on various factors, including your health, activity level, and environment. What are the health benefits of water? Water is your body's principal chemical component and makes up about 50% to 70% of your body weight. Your body depends on water to survive. Every cell, tissue and organ in your body needs water to work properly. For example, water: • Gets rid of wastes through urination, perspiration and bowel movements • Keeps your temperature normal • Lubricates and cushions joints Protects sensitive tissues Lack of water can lead to dehydration — a condition that occurs when you don't have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions. Even mild dehydration can drain your energy and make you tired. Get your water in!!! • Reminders: PLEASE clean the equipment after each use to help stop the spread of all the viruses going around. • Bricks for sale; Purchase your bricks from a committee member or see me. Leave your legacy at ORPS. You can see the pathway in front of the Gym. So many awesome memories and beautiful tributes. ❤ • Please be responsible, and return weights back to proper location. • Looking for motivated people to be on the Health and Fitness Committee, please reach out to a member. ❤️ FREE - Walking/ stretching and strength training classes are in full swing and growing rapidly. I teach the 8 am class on Tuesday mornings, and Cindy Rose teaches on Thursday evenings at 5:30. Keep that body moving … So important!! “ Staying active helps delay or prevent chronic Illnesses and diseases associated with aging.

“ Remember, Jesus Loves You ” “ We thank our God in every remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy every time we pray for you all. ” Those were the Apostle Paul ’ s words of love to the Christians who were living in Philippi. We echo his prayer regularly. What a great God we serve!! He loves us and gave His Son, who gave His life as a sacrifice for our sin, and granted us the gift of forgiveness. I trust each of us are included by faith in his prayer. Paul thanked the Lord for people who stood with him financially, allowing him to share the love of Christ. The power of Christ ’ s love and presence gave him confidence that the task God had given him would be perfected and fulfilled until the day of Christ Jesus. It was the reason his love for others gave him great joy and purpose. He loved them as they faithfully loved him. Karen and I have felt loved and encouraged also. Thanks for attending and supporting Chapel, and us, for over 19 years of our service to Him here. As we leave the position of Chaplain of ORPS, and begin our next “ journey of faith, it is with mixed emotions. So many of you have given us the joy of praying for you. ORPS has been one of the great blessings in our lives. We love you and will keep our lot and rig, enabling us to see you during January and February each season. This is our prayer for you: “ May your love abound still even more and more in real knowledge and discernment, doing things that are excellent and enabling, that you will be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ. ” We are grateful for your participation and friendship through Chapel through these years. We pray you will be the same for the next person who fills the role of Chaplain of ORPS. God bless you, Jim and Karen.

This month our spotlight is on Laura Moore, our group secretary. Laura lives in Bella Vista, Arkansas along with her husband Ric and their goldendoodle, Jojo the wonder dog. Laura and Ric bought their lot in 2010 after spending only 1 weekend in ORPS. She started quilting in 2009 after her daughter Jennifer was killed in a tragic accident, finding comfort in making a memory quilt out of her clothing. Now she can take this quilt and take comfort in remembering her daughter wearing the different pieces of clothing. Laura also loves to find new, fun projects to create including wallets, bags, lanyards just to name a few. Some of Laura ’ s other interests here at ORPS include pickleball, walking, her love of people and the many activities. Laura keeps us laughing in the sewing room with her breakout singing and dancing. She feels ORPS is better than high school and with all the great people in the sewing room, she loves coming each day as it fills her with joy, as she does for all of us. Thanks, Laura, for all you do. On February 28th we proudly displayed our work in the El Saguaro Clubhouse. Quilts of all sizes and styles, bags, dish caddies, iPad caddies and many more hand - crafted items were on display and for sale. It gets bigger every year!
