GLOUCESTER RENAISSANCE The proposed new pedestrian street in Kings Quarter
The Magnificent Seven #5 King’s Quarter
The transformation of King’s Quarter in Gloucester will be one of the last and most important pieces of the jigsaw in the city’s regeneration. It has been a long time coming, with many twists and turns along the way, since the GHURC and its partners launched a design competition for King’s Square in 2007. But the regeneration plans never took off and it was one area of Gloucester’s renaissance where the GHURC had to admit failure, before the organisation was wound up in March 2013. Gloucester City Council has now taken over leadership of King’s Quarter regeneration, which has moved away from a retail-led scheme to an exciting mixed-use development.
