What’s Happening in August? A Few KC Events to Watch Out For

FAREWELL TO SUMMER FREE DAY When: August 19, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Where: The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures Admission: Free! Who doesn’t love toys and miniatures? Take a day to visit one of the largest collections of miniatures in the world — for free! It’s a great outing for the whole family and sure to spark any imagination. Current special exhibits include “Over the Rainbow: Toys from the Land of Oz” and “Treasures of the Kings: 18th Century French Interiors in Miniature.”

KEMPER MUSEUM ANNUAL BLOCK PARTY When: August 19, 6–10:30 p.m. Where: Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art Admission: Free! If one trip to the museum wasn’t enough (or toys and miniatures aren’t your thing), you won’t want to miss Kemper Museum’s 3rd Annual Block Party. There will be plenty of food, music, art exhibitions and so much more. Take in the wondrous works from artists near and far while enjoying a sampling of the greatest food trucks KC has to offer. Add live music and you have a perfect Saturday night.

SOLAR ECLIPSE OF NE KANSAS When: August 21, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Where: NE Kansas and West Missouri (St. Joseph) Admission: Free! Living in the KC area means we are remarkably close the path of the upcoming eclipse. If you’re willing to make a short drive, you can witness the eclipse in its totality, an incredibly rare event for sure! It passes directly over St. Joseph, Missouri, as well as a number of other towns due north. In St. Joseph, the eclipse will begin at 11:40 a.m., with totality set for 1:06 p.m.
