Club Championship

When was the last time you had your clubs re-gripped? 18 months is the absolute maximum you should wait to change your grips because slick or worn grips can have a negative impact on your game, like driving on worn tires. Maintaining proper grip pressure is essential in making a smooth swing, but worn grips require tighter grip pressure which inhibits the swing. Worn grips are can be slippery in wet conditions. Degradation is gradual, so you may not even realize how worn they’ve gotten. Stop by either Golf Shop for more information or to have one of the Golf Professionals take look at your grips.

The 2018 ANCC Club Championship is the tournament that matches your golf skills one-on-one with each of your fellow competitors. This championship will include both a Men’s and Women’s Division for the championship ONLY (Flighted Match Play Championship will begin in June). Click here for complete details and to enter beginning Thursday, 19 April.

For complete tournament information and to enter beginning Monday, 16 April, click here . One day S p r i n g M e m b e r G u e s t (Revised January 18, 2018) Entry into all ANCC Club Golf Tournaments is governed by the following order of priority unless specifically modified and published for an event. a. Eligible Members may enter a Club Golf Tournament at any time during the published registration period for that event. b. Eligible Spouses may enter a Club Golf Tournament, either individually or as part of a team, if the field limit has not been reached during the first seven (7) days of the published registration period for that event. c. When permitted, eligible Junior Members may enter a Club Golf Tournament, either individually or as part of a team, if the field limit has not been reached during the first 21 days of the published registration period for that event. d. Participation by a properly entered Spouse or Junior Member will not be limited or restricted based on the time or day of the scheduled round(s). e. Entry into ANCC Club Golf Tournaments requires players to have a current, verifiable handicap, established and maintained at ANCC or another creditably affiliated club (as defined by the USGA Handicap System). Players without such may be denied entry or may be subject to playing from a scratch handicap (0). Tournament Entry/ Standard Rule of Priority

Following a very successful program for the past 2 years, we’re looking for some fellow golfers (and golf groups) to join us this year in helping to keep our ANCC courses in great condition, despite the 80,000+ rounds per year that we play on them. This is a huge amount of play, and when you play golf, you create divots and ball marks – it’s part of the game. It’s our responsibility as golfers to fix our div- ots and ball marks – and that is part of the etiquette of the game. Please help us. The Golf & Green Committee sponsors the program, which asks volunteers to pay particular attention to repairing ball marks on the greens and divots on the fairways. The groups, couples, and individuals who adopt a hole usually simply pay extra attention to their hole during the play of their normal rounds, encouraging other playing partners to help. It does not take long to sweep a green for ball marks or fill a handful of extra divots as you play. We don’t expect perfection each time, but want to get everyone working towards making the course better. If a member felt his/her hole needs extra attention, he/she would be free to arrange to work on it when his/her activities would not disrupt the pace of play. Last year, we had 100+ volunteers that adopted holes, and the effect on our courses was noticeable. Please help us protect our investment and keep our playing enjoyable. Send an email to anccadoptahole@gmail.com , and we’ll send you the full details.

WMGA

WGO-18 WOMEN’S 18-HOLE GOLF ORGANIZATION

The Washington Metropolitan Golf Association Senior (WMGA) ‘A’ Team competition matches will begin in April and continue into the first part of May as needed. For more information, click here or contact the team co-captains, Bill Engel at (703) 899-0091 or bengel1002@aol.com , or Peter Jacobi at (571) 276-6256 petergeezergolf@comcast.net .

Our spring clinics at both ARL and FFX took us through much of March, in spite of less than ideal weather some days, leading us to our annual membership meeting, raffle fund-raiser, and spring luncheon on Wednesday, 28 March. Our regular Tuesday (ARL) and Friday (FFX) play days are now underway, getting us ready for our first tournament, the Spring Fling (Friday, 27 April at FFX), always a fun battle of ABCD- arranged foursomes. We are delighted to welcome 3 new members to WGO-18: Linda Banton, Jane Keith, and Kathleen Nilles. If you are thinking about joining, please check us out on our website here or contact Membership Chair, Debbie Dawson, at debbiedawson10@icloud.com . April means it is time for a golf tune-up as we try to shed bad habits and renew our commitment to this great game and the friends that it allows us to make on the way. This year the CWGO skills clinics – Wednesday evenings at ARL and Thursday evenings at FFX – are open to all women who are eligible to play golf at Army Navy. These clinics, which run from 5:30 to 6:30 PM, provide an opportunity for working women to focus on their game, meet other like-minded club members and learn from different members of the professional staff. The cost is $25 per clinic. For topics and to register, please go to the Golf Calendar on the ANCC website. Once the clinics are over, weeknight play commences with the Wild Wednesday Scramble at ARL on Wednesday, 2 May and a regular play day on Thursday, 3 May at Fairfax. In addition to renewed focus on Wednesday and Thursday evening play at both courses, CWGO will have Saturday tee times available on almost every Saturday in the golf season. The first of our monthly special events is Saturday, 28 April for the annual Memorial Stableford. This event will be at Arlington with tee times starting around noon. Learn about these events and more on the newly updated CWGO page on the ANCC website. Contact Tina Gwilliam, Membership Chair ( CWGO.membership@gmail.com ), if you would like more information on joining the group. CWGO CAREER WOMEN’S GOLF ORGANIZATION

Regular competitions are held in three (3) handicap flights on Tuesday mornings at FFX and Friday mornings at ARL. The first day of play for the 2018 golf season will be Tuesday, 2 April at FFX and Friday, 13 April at ARL. Sign-up sheets will be located in the appropriate pro-shop.

Upcoming Events: The WNHGO will have the following golf clinics:
