We are just at the beginning of the Allocations process for the upcoming year – the applications are just starting to arrive. Each agency receives a different level of assistance as they each have different needs and request accord- ingly. They apply for funding based on what they feel is needed to run their program.” According to Greer, decisions about fi- nancial support are made by volunteer co- mities. On average, across the country, local United Way - Centraide spend 15 per cent of total revenue on fundraising and admin- istration costs, which means that 85 cents of every dollar raised goes directly back to the community.

Having completed their 2014 campaign, United Way of SD&G now has to decide who will receive the amassed funds. Even though their $707,070 goal wasn’t reached, Executive Director Lori Greer ex- pressed her content with the $664,000 re- ceived from the community and considers it a success. The organization supports 16 different agencies, with 19 programs, that help the community.
