So we decided to start at 8:30, and now people start lining up at 8,” remarked Lefebvre. Paint, motor oil, fluorescent light tubes, oil filters, batteries, propane tanks and an- tifreeze are just some of the products that are routinely deposited. “One year, we had some PCBs brought here,”relates Lefebvre. The products are taken away by Drain- All Ltd., a company that collects and han- dles hazardous products. The addition of a second household hazardous waste drop-off in 2009 had the desired result -- the volume of dangerous products diverted from landfill disposal has increased dramatically. Volumes of diverted HHW have gone from about 20 tonnes annually to about 30 tonnes since the three municipalities decided to double the number of collec- tion days.

HAWKESBURY | For more and more area residents in Hawkesbury, Champlain and East Hawkesbury, spring cleaning chores have started to include a trip to the Hawkesbury municipal garage. That is where the annual spring house- hold hazardous waste drop-off day is held every May. Traffic at the collections has been steadily increasing over the years, with the 2013 response being one of the best ever. “I have been in the ‘business’ for a lot of years and I have never seen this before,” said Hawkesbury area waste recycling co- ordinator Robert Lefebvre. Last Saturday, some 494 vehicles drove through the gates, as people from the three municipalities dropped off an as- sortment of waste materials for safe dis- posal. That number represented a 36 per
