JOSEPH F. EMMERTH A LOOK AT FAMILY LAW OF SULLIVAN TAYLOR & GUMINA, P.C.
TAKING YOUR LIFE INTO YOUR OWN HANDS Our Founding Fathers’ Influence in Fighting for Our Independence
In 1776, our continental congress approved the Declaration of Independence, declaring the 13 American colonies free and independent of Britain’s rule. Our predecessors wanted their independence and their freedom. They were able to take their lives into their own hands and put their foot down. Divorce can be very similar. I’ve seen many clients in situations where they felt repressed and miserable, with little to no freedom outside of (or inside of) their marriages. These clients had to put their feet down and draw a line in the sand — they realized that enough was enough, and they wouldn’t be pushed around any longer. Many married Americans face this kind of situation every day. Each of them struggles to gain the freedom they deserve and break away from a repressive spouse.
July 4 has represented independence for all citizens in America. Just like the people who fought for our freedoms we have today, you have the right to fight for what you deserve, as well. There may have been numerous moments that led you to this conclusion; now it’s time to take action. You have the ability to take back your life with your own two hands, and now is a perfect time to start thinking about your future. Once you’ve decided this is the route to take, the next important step is to consult an experienced attorney. No matter where you are in the divorce process, speaking to an attorney can make all the difference. A good attorney will help you through the complications that come with filing a divorce. They will consider your emotional well-being on top of securing a strong financial foundation so you can start over.
Independence Day is when we, as citizens of the United States of America, celebrate the independence of our country. Starting in the 18th century,
