THE VIRGIN BIRTH (Continued from Page 182)

death, the resurrection, the ascension, the return, the end, I say I should not wonder but what that is the right ex planation of the mystery. It looks naturally, reasonably right. And then I come down to the gospels, and I read of the angels saying to the perturbed woman, “Pear not, for the Holy Ghost shall come upon thee and thou w ilt bear a Son and His name shall be called Immanuel, which means God with us.’’ It sounds natural, it is what I was expect ing, it is the thing for which I looked. For I do not see how that life, death, resurrection, ascension, return tri umph, can otherwise be accounted for. And when I come to the text and hear Paul say, “Great is the mystery of Godliness, God manifest in the flesh,” my mind heaves a sigh of relief and I say I have the one fitting explanation at last. For that accounts for the life, the death, the resur rection, the ascension, the return in glory, and for the triumphant conclusion and winding up of the whole story of God’s manifestation to the children of men. And so I have come to where I affirm this is the looked for solution and explanation to every man who thinks deep enough and meditates upon this unique life, death, resur rection, ascension, return, final and eternal triumph. It Is the one explanation that satisfies the mind. And I repeat-, I should infer from my study of that Christ, even only going so far as we have gone this morning, I should infer the virgin birth of Jesus Christ. And it is stated in the book! I have no sympathy with the people who are all the time telling you what you need not believe and yet be a Christian. I cannot stand with one foot on rock and one on bog. I am going to have both my feet on the rock, or else I will go down in the bog and have nothing to do with the rock. The Bible is God’s book. It is the only book God ever wrote. He says the words of that revelation are alive. And my experience declares they are, and so does your experience. Then if that Book of God tells me a thing, it is so. Whether I can prove it is so or not, is another story. Whether I can see the depth of it or not, is another story. It is true. Great is the mystery of Godliness! But the facts told in that book are facts, and I am going to believe them. And I have no difficulty in believing them either, because the whole of them look just as reasonable as Christ’s entrance into the world, when I come to think about it and take the word of God concerning them. Peo ple, there is no sufficing explanation of Christ unless He was Son of God as well as Son of Mary. But when that fact is believed, there is a light flung that is radiant with glory on the life He lived, the death He died, the resur rection that was His, the ascension, the magnificence of His promised return, and the ultimate unquestioned and eternal reign of the great King of Saints. And so I lead you into the words of Robert Browning: “I say the ac knowledgment of God in Christ accepted by the reason will solve for thee all problems in the world and out of it.” R a l l y i n g and A D I A T I N G CENTER
