Career & Technical Education The Career and Technical Education (CTE) area is funded similarly to the FY26 budget. In our seven full Chapter 74 CTE programs and two affiliated areas of study, staffing and support levels have been maintained. These programs include Automotive Technology, Business, Carpentry, Culinary Arts, Design & Visual Communications, Drafting, Early Education & Care, Graphic Communications, TV Media Arts. CTE programs, along with many other high school offerings make Newton’s high school students’ experiences unique. Ongoing support of these programs is essential to providing a well-rounded high school program. The current budget proposal, however, does not add the three shops that have been proposed by the high school building principals to address the ongoing requests of our student population: medical assisting, information systems and technology, and dental assisting. We have written a $1.4M grant for DESE support for these programs and we hope to communicate an update about this grant and the implications for our programs in NPS later this spring. Adding the additional CTE programs will bring Newton’s CTE program in-line with other districts in the Commonwealth that have added programs over the past ten years. We will continue to seek grant funded options to assist us in the inception year of programming–after which the state's Chapter 74 funding will kick in to assist in reimbursement for programming.
