Badgemore Anniversary Book

Les Hines, a member of Badgemore Park since 1995, is the lead author. His natural curiosity, enthusiasm for golf and interest in history (plus a book that he had been given years ago that marked the centenary of a club in East Sussex) made him a good selection for membership of the golden anniversary planning team, where he took on the task of compiling this record that captures 50 years of the life of the club. For over 30 years, Les pursued a career around the world in global business management with a focus on sales, marketing, and general management. Now a part-time business consultant, before taking on the Badgemore project, Les had never considered writing a book before – and we wonder whether he will again! In this chronicle of the history of Badgemore Park, Les has pulled from the plethora of archive material, memorabilia, and personal recollections to produce this book. With this project, the club now has a significant archive of the history of the Badgemore estate and a book in print that’s available to all members of the club. Eric Marwood, always a man for the detail, pulled together much of the research work and without his efforts, the book would have been missing a lot of vital and important information. Finally, we must thank Peter Dixon who, having spent more than 30 years as a sports journalist in Fleet Street, the vast majority of them at The Times , was the perfect choice to guide the production and editing of the book. As deputy sports editor at The Times , Peter was responsible for the day-to-day commissioning of news reports and features, and for liaising with a talented team of writers. He later became the paper’s golf correspondent and travelled the world to cover some of the game’s biggest events, among them the men’s and women’s major championships and the Ryder Cup. He was also a ghost writer for Justin Rose, the former US Open champion and world No.1.

WRITER LES HINES WAS EXTREMELY GRATEFUL FOR THE SUPPORT AND PROFESSIONAL GUIDANCE OF PETER DIXON
