The next morning, we planned to make the short drive across town to the Plaza de Artesanías in Tlaquepaque. You’ll find the best handcrafted Mexican art – especially pottery – in this spot. The pottery is one of a kind. It’s not cheap, but the selection is great.
After breakfast, we went to the car. I got into the driver’s seat and turned the key.
The engine roared. Loudly.
If you’ve ever owned a classic muscle car – or pulled up next to one at a red light – you know what I mean... the kind of sound a car makes when it’s missing its muffler. I hopped out and looked under the car. Sure enough, no muffler. No exhaust system at all. When I left the car in that lot the night before, it had a muffler and exhaust. I promise.
I walked back into the hotel lobby.
