King's Business - 1955-11

trine of the immaculate conception and stainless life. She, like the rest of us, had need of the Saviour and “rejoiced in God my Saviour.” The tragedy of the Roman position is that it tends to take glory from Christ and give it to Mary. This was never intended. No such teach ing can be gathered from the Virgin’s Song, although it is certainly true that Mary was highly favored of God and blessed in the honor bestowed upon her as no other woman was ever blessed. The Nuno Dimittus 2:29, 32 A beautiful song has resulted from these words. Simeon’s lifelong desire had been to see the Messiah face to face. When at last that privilege was granted him, he felt ready to , depart this life. The Latin words at the head of this section, meaning Now Let, carry this idea. It is true that when once a person has seen the face of Jesus and yielded to His will he is ready to depart from this scene. We see Him now in the Word which reveals His lovely person and His plan of sal vation. Ofttimes after seeing the Saviour in salvation He permits the saved one to remain here to witness for Him. But whatever the Lord’s plan may be, the saved one has been made ready to enter into His presence. Have you seen the Saviour and embraced the salvation that is in Him? Lesson Helps for the Children Songs of the First Christmas Luke 1:5-80 M E M O R Y VERSE: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward m en" (Luke 2:14). Many years ago in the land of Pales tine, two families were eagerly awaiting the birth of a child. Each family loved God and desired that the child who should be bom might love and honor Him. To one of these families, the Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, was bom. To the other family, the Saviour’s cousin, John, was bom. After the birth of John, Zechariah, his father, sang a beautiful song of joy be cause his son was chosen to be the mes senger or the fore-runner of the Son of God. You may read the song in Luke 1:68-79. Zechariah rejoiced that God had a special work for John to do for Him. Mary sang a beautiful song of thanks giving before the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. This song is found in Luke 1:46-55. Christian parents today rejoice each time that God sends a child into their home, for they know that the child has been created to do a special work' that no one else can do quite as well as they. All Christians around the world are re joicing at this time of the year for the Lord Jesus whose birthday we are remem bering at Christmas time. God’s only Son was the most precious Baby ever to be bom. Because God sent His Son to the earth in human form, we who have re ceived Him as our personal Saviour have everlasting life. Our hearts should he filled with songs of joy as we thank God for the wonderful gift of His Son to all the world. END.

and pray for others. Frequently we read in God’s Word that the Lord Jesus went away from the crowds and from His disciples to be alone with God His Father. God gave to Him new strength for His work after these quiet times away from others. As you read the verses suggested at the beginning of this lesson, you will discover that when the Lord Jesus prayed, He prayed for others more than for Himself. Even the so-called “Lord’s Prayer” uses the words “we” and “us” rather than “ I” and “me.” If you have been saying memorized prayers at meals and at bed-time, start today talking with your Saviour as you do with your parents. You will love Him more and he a happier Christian when you tell Him all of the problems and all of the joys that come into your life. Talk to Him about your schoolwork, talk to Him about your friends who do not know Him as their Saviour, and be certain each time that you talk to Him that you thank Him for all that He has done for you. Christmas is a time of singing. It is a time of rejoicing. It is most appropriate that much attention is given in our Sun day schools and church services at Christ mas time to special music by the chil dren as well as by adult groups. We find substantiation for this in today’s lesson which presents the songs in the Gospel of Luke that were associated with the Sav iour’s birth. The first lesson of the quar ter, you will remember, emphasized the historical fact of Jesus’ birth. This one lays emphasis upon the redemptive sig nificance of His birth and the joy that attended it. The Song of Kingship 1:32, 33 As J.F.B.’s commentary says, “This is but an echo of the sublime prediction of Isaiah 9:6, 7.” The greatness of the Mes siah is emphasized. “He shall be great . . . the Son of the Highest.” W e are re minded of His kingship with its unending duration. With profit the teacher may well turn to Rev. 19:11-16 which graphically describes the Second Coming of Christ at which time it will be made clearly evident that He is “King of Kings, and Lord of Lords” (v. 16). During His First Coming His kingship was held in abey ance. Men rejected Him and so His king dom was not established at that time. But its future establishment is certain. And it is worth singing about. The Magnificat 1:46-50 There was a song in Mary’s heart as she voiced these words. She truly magni fied the Lord in her whole attitude. She considered herself as the willing and hum ble servant of the Lord in the whole matter of her becoming the mother of Jesus. She in no wise thought of herself as Roman Catholics do with their doc Dec. 25, 1955 Songs of the Saviour's Birth Luke 1:32, 33, 46-50; 2:29-32 Pointers on the Lesson
