A Moment Captured in Time
GETTING THE PERFECT SMILE FOR THE PERFECT DAY
I see many patients who are getting ready for one of the biggest days of their lives: their wedding. Brides and grooms, bridesmaids and groomsmen, parents, and guests all want to look their absolute best on this big day. These days, many couples have a checklist of what they want to accomplish before their wedding day. These are goals like losing weight, getting into shape, getting new contact lenses (or even laser eye surgery), improving skin tone, and so on. But often at the very top of these lists are teeth whitening and improving their smile. This is on top of all the wedding planning! Summer is wedding season, and we’re seeing more people interested in the many options we have to help them look their best. The most common treatment option is in-office teeth whitening. While at-home options are great, they can’t match the effectiveness of in-office whitening treatments. The goal is not only to whiten and brighten teeth by a few shades (or several, depending on the circumstances), but also to eliminate stains or other forms of discoloration caused by foods, beverages, or smoking. There are some instances when teeth whitening might not be enough, or it might not be the only option for a patient. For the most severe discoloration or other dental issues, such as chipping, a patient may choose veneers. Veneers offer a high amount of flexibility. If two teeth are discolored or chipped, all you need are two veneers. Or a patient may choose veneers across all the front-facing teeth. It all comes down to the look they desire to create. Some people do ask for more extensive work to prepare for their wedding. Not only do they wish to whiten their smile, but they also want to fix uneven or misaligned teeth. As a result, they may opt for cosmetic recontouring. Everyone has different needs, and everyone has their vision of how they want their smile to look. They want to look their best for their new spouse and for all of their guests. But they also want to look their best for the wedding photos. Every photo is a moment captured in time. These are photos that may be framed and
placed on the wall of the home, shared on social media, and cherished in family albums for years to come.
And it’s not only couples and members of the wedding party who are thinking about teeth whitening, veneers, or cosmetic recontouring. These options are available to anyone who wants to make a change and improve their smile. There are countless reasons to improve your smile, but there’s really only one that’s truly important — how you feel! Whether you are getting married or you simply want to look your best “just because,” the best reason to improve your smile is because it makes you happy. And, really, that’s the best reason to do anything!

Fitness Equipment You Can Take With You While You Travel That Good Burn
Core Sliders
Traveling is one of the best ways to stretch your comfort zone and make new memories — if only your fitness routine didn’t have to suffer for it. However, there are ways to feel a good burn, no matter where you travel. Pack the following equipment for your next vacation and never miss a workout.
Traveling is a great time to have a few extra cheat meals, but you don’t want this indulgence to come at the expense of your core strength. While you’re on vacation, keep your gut strong with core sliders. These thin, round discs are placed under your hands or feet as you pull and push your limbs away from your body in a plank position. They are the perfect tool for when a crunch just isn’t enough or when you’d rather not lay on the hotel floor.
Swim Goggles
Resistance Bands
Make your swimming routine more effective, and (literally) keep your eye on the prize, with a pair of swim goggles.
Spend more time by the pool and less time working out on vacation when you double the effect of your squats with these rubber bands. Each band is a stretchable loop that you wear around both legs at once, and they’re conveniently compact and lightweight. (Pro tip: Wear your band just above your knees for the most resistance!) You can incorporate your bands into any workout, as the level of resistance you choose with the band will impact the amount of work your muscles do. The best part about this equipment is that it packs a punch for your glutes, and it’s small enough to fit in a purse.
Most goggles are small, and some even come with their own case. The key is to find a pair that fits your head well. Unlike resistance bands or sliders, which all function the same general way, an ineffective pair of goggles can leave you fidgeting with your gear more than actually working out. Try on a few pairs or read through the reviews before making your selection. You can feel the burn on vacation without getting a sunburn. Pack these lightweight tools in your carry-on and jet away on new adventures this summer.
The Basics of Porcelain Veneers
Do you have crooked teeth? If your teeth are crooked or misaligned, then you may not qualify for veneers — at least not initially. Typically, this affects those with more severe teeth issues. Why is this? When veneers are installed, it’s not uncommon for part of a tooth to be removed to ensure the veneer fits perfectly. The more misaligned a tooth is, the more likely it is that the tooth may need to be removed, causing pain or sensitivity. The straighter your teeth, the easier the process. What are your dental habits? When you grind your teeth, bite your fingernails, or chew on ice, you may be damaging your teeth. When you get veneers, those same activities can damage those as well. Think of veneers as an investment in your smile, one you’ll want to keep around for a long time! If you have questions about porcelain veneers and you’ve been thinking about pursuing this great option, call our office to book your free consultation. Every patient is different, and we work closely with each patient to determine the best option for the best outcome.
Have you ever thought about getting porcelain veneers? Many patients consider veneers when they want to improve their smile and when teeth whitening, along with daily brushing and flossing, aren’t enough. Porcelain veneers are available to a wide range of patients: those who feel their teeth are discolored or stained; those who simply want a straighter, more even smile; and those who may have a small imperfection that’s otherwise difficult to fix, such as a chip. Keep in mind that if it is something you’re thinking about, veneers aren’t for every patient. There are a few questions you can ask yourself, along with your dentist, to figure out if veneers are right for you. Are your teeth and gums healthy? If they are, fantastic! Veneers benefit from healthier, stronger teeth and gums. If you do have tooth or gum disease, chances are you will need to take care of this first before moving forward with veneers, depending on the severity of the issue. At the same time, you will also need to have enough tooth enamel for the veneer to affix to.

The Best Medicine
A Closer Look at Preventive Oral Care
We are all familiar with the adage “Prevention is the best medicine,” and dentists, doctors, and medical professionals in every field stress this with their patients. When it comes to oral health, and health in general, preventive care can make all the difference. Not only can preventive care lead to better overall health, but it can also lower health care-related costs in the future. When it comes to oral health, the results of preventive care are impressive. A seven-year study spearheaded by the University of Sydney in Australia confirmed it. Originally published in December 2015, the study examined 1,000 patients at 22 dental practices around Australia. Researchers compared two groups of patients: those who had “drill and fill” treatment (they had two or more cavities per year, plus fillings) and those who took preventive measures. The preventive patients regularly brushed and flossed and limited their intake of sugary foods and beverages.
The results of the study weren’t surprising. The group of patients who focused on preventive oral care saw their risk of developing tooth decay fall by 30–50 percent. In addition, patients who were considered at high risk for developing tooth decay but who had improved their oral care saw their risk drop by a staggering 80 percent. The lead researcher of the study, Professor Wendell Evans, concluded that, in many cases, tooth decay had the potential to be stopped and reversed, if not outright prevented. When early signs of tooth decay are spotted, it can be targeted. Extra effort can be placed on controlling the decay, ensuring it doesn’t progress to the point where a filling becomes necessary. All it takes is a deliberate approach to care, treatment, and lifestyle. This study is great news for people who hate the idea of getting a filling, whether that antipathy stems from the procedure itself or the resultingmedical costs. It also confirms what many dentists have long reminded patients: You can’t beat prevention when it comes tomaintaining a healthy smile.

mountain country. There are several lodges that were grandfathered in to the wilderness area, most of which are only accessible by jet boat, light aircraft, or good old-fashioned hiking. Some, like the Middle Fork Lodge, offer five-star accommodations, located conveniently close to one of the area’s many natural hot springs. Those with the right permits will find the rivers and lakes full of fishing opportunities, and the surrounding pine forests are teeming with game. Lodges? I Just Want to Get Away From It All. For those looking for a truly unplugged experience, backpacking to the many campsites scattered throughout the region can be an incredible journey. Journey Down a River of No Return The Unspoiled Beauty of Central Idaho
There’s more to Idaho than potatoes. Sitting square in the center of the Gem State is one of the largest contiguous areas of protected wilderness in the U.S. While the Frank Church- River of No Return Wilderness Area may not roll off the tongue as easy as Yellowstone or Yosemite, this 2 million-acre swath of mountains, gorges, and alpine lakes offers something for outdoor enthusiasts of all stripes. River of NoWhat, Now? The name of the wilderness may sound a little ominous at first — who wants to travel down a river of no return? — but in truth, it’s a title
from times gone by when canoes and small watercraft could travel down the Middle Fork of the Salmon River swiftly but couldn’t fight the current going back up. Today, those same rapids make the Middle Fork a wildly popular whitewater rafting destination, with plenty of local and out-of-state enthusiasts making a return journey every summer. Rafting Isn’t for Me. What Else You Got? If crashing down 300 Class III rapids isn’t your speed, the Frank Church Wilderness has plenty of other ways to enjoy the wild
