When the Eastern Ontario Snowmobile Club (EOSC) sent out a call for volunteers to help open all the gates on the trails in time for the February 8 weekend, the membership responded in droves, working around the clock with shovels, ice picks, and blow torches to clear away snow blocking gate paths. As soon as one gate was open, volunteers raced with the keys to the next one to get it open. All the trails in the Larose Forest and also the Prescott-Russell Recreational Trail were open again for snowmobiling after the United Counties of Prescott-Russell and the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs reached a compromise agreement February 7 on liability coverage for trail users. —supplied photo
