THREE SIMPLE MARKETING IDEAS FOR 2019 I have taken these three ideas from a new Hospitality eBook I intend publishing in 2019. #3. Mark McDonnell is the owner of the La Salle Grille in 115 West Colfax Ave – South Bend, Indiana, USA. (see www.lasallegrill.com) He attended on of the seminars I did in America with Bill Marvin – the Restaurant Doctor. He shared this interesting idea with me. One of his clients sent this note to him. “Mark, Why not take a picture of each of your staff and tell their story and put it in the front window of your Grille. I think it would be very impressive to see how long most of them have been with you.” I really like the idea of you displaying the staff pictures (with their approval) and information in your business. It makes them feel ‘famous’ and a integral part of your operation. And, it allows customers to ‘put a name with the face’ before entering your business. You will note Bunnings Stores do a similar thing here in Australia. By line: At HospitalityDoctor.com.au you will find tips, tricks and tonics to help you become a super Hospitality Industry professional. You will also find details of a series of eBooks titled “How To Develop A Memory Like An Elephant.”

#1. "Why do you have Cardiff – Wales, written under the name on your name badge?" customer service specialist - Graham Harvey (see: www.grahamharvey.com.au) asked the young lady serving him in a Pub in Perth, Western Australia. “Cardiff is where I was born" replied the young lady. She continued, “All the staff have their birthplace inscribed on their badges. It’s a great idea. It breaks down barriers and helps create conversation between customers and staff.” “Max” wrote Graham “my time in the Pub having a meal was certainly all the more enjoyable for having had the conversation with this young lady from Cardiff. I am sure the level of service was better than you usually receive when the server or waiter is ‘incognito’ (with no name badge) And our tip was better too! This highlights the fact that great customer service is not rocket science either. It is mostly about creating enjoyable relationships with people.” #2. I saw an idea in a Bangkok Hotel that I am sure could work in Tasmania. Do have a builder, carpenter or handyman customer in your pub, bar, tavern, club, restaurant or hotel? If so, talk to him about building a small putting green for you. It could be built in sections and stored away, if space is a problem. Make sure you put some indentations or rises on the surface as they will increase the degree of difficulty. Also talk to your local Sports Store and offer them the opportunity to sponsor your ‘putting green’. Perhaps you can erect a sign on or near the ‘green’ and give this space to your new sponsor. You could even paint the name of your new sponsor onto the putting surface. If your Sports Store is not interested in sponsoring you then look another local sponsor...preferably one who is already a customer. This will give you a ‘marketing tool’ that will do a number of things for you. (1) Earn your Word of Mouth advertising in your community, as everyone will talk about your putting green and your Pub. (2) Give you a marketing tool to keep your regulars in your bar longer. (3) Give you a marketing tool to keep tourists in your Pub because it’s a fun
