to some town in Indiana and taking himwith her, far from his familiar and comfortable roots in the New York Jewish community. Now he has tomake friends all over again, and still prepare for his bar mitzvah, which now may not be as spectacular as he was thinking, but it still could be fun. If he can figure out a way to get the most popular kid at school to be his friend and come to the party because everyone else will follow and make it spectacular. But he may also have to decide whether or not to invite to the bar mitzvah party the first friend he’s made since moving to Indiana, because she is sort of the school pariah. «It’ll be a great show,» said Joyce Char- trand, RAPA spokeswoman, during a phone interview. «It’s going on stage in three weeks, and they (cast) have been practicing since the fall. There are some really incredible singing voices involved.» RAPA has made a point over the years of providing theatre venues to allow young thespians a chance to step into the spotlight and showwhat they can do. Past productions featuring all-youth casts, or at least a majo- rity of young faces front and centre on stage, have included such popular standbys like TheWizard of Oz and Grease. This year’s pro- duction has Tara Shannon, a veteran RAPA member, directing the young cast members.

Being a kid ain’t an easy job. Imagine how much harder it gets being a kid uprooted from the old and familiar neighbourhood and dumped in a town where everyone is a stranger. Oh, and to add to the upset, MomandDad are getting divorced. That, in a nutshell, is “13”, the Broadway hit about tweens and teens that the Russell Associa- tion for the Performing Arts is bringing on stage in April with a young cast drawn from all corners of the township. The popular musical by Jason Robert Brown concerns Evan Goldman, a 12-going- on-13 lad born-and-bred New Yorker, who is looking forward to his bar mitzvah when he learns that his parents are getting divorced. Then he finds out that his mother is moving
