A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8

It has been another successful week in Year 8. This week I have been encouraged to see how hard all our Year 8s have been working in their DT subjects. I had the pleasure to wander into a number of the classes and see the brilliant work of our students. There was apple tart preparing, stringent sewing, box building and laser cutting as the students all learned a range of new skills. It has been a joy to see the students all working on their practical-based subjects, getting a chance to do something beyond the traditional classroom. On Monday, a number of students from different year groups took part in the Myth & Voice Workshop, which I am sure they benefited immensely from. On Tuesday, a group of students had the opportunity to attend Hampton School where they spent the day participating in the Independent State Schools Partnership (ISSP) Music Day. This event saw over 170 musicians from eight local schools come together to enjoy a wonderful day of music making.

Congratulations to Dakshina AP, Emilie F, Keira E, Marie H, Olivia M, Ella R-J, Gaia S and Freya W for representing the school at the Richmond Borough Cross Country event last Friday.

A big congratulations to the U13 Cricket Team who headed down to the Middlesex Cricket Tournament last week. Some special mentions are reserved for Olivia D who was the best batter on the day. Also Mia C with safe hands was our best catcher on the day. Unfortunately the students lost by 2 runs in the final. Overall a great performance from all involved. Looking forward we will continue our mindfulness and gratitude workshops throughout tutor time. I hope many of you will receive kind words as we have been working on students practising gratitude daily (especially to their families). I hope many of you are the recipients of this!

BOOK OF THE MONTH

The Girl of Ink and Stars by Kiran Millwood Hargrave

This book delves into the story of Isabella, who lives on an island filled with mythical legends and secrets. When a mysterious disappearance of a girl on the Island happens it leaves everyone with questions. The book follows Isabella on her quest of finding the missing girl on the island and solving the strange mysteries of the unknown. Meanwhile, discovering her past and the vibrant history of her ancestors. I like how fast paced and exciting the book is, while also allowing the reader to feel intrigued.
