This month we salute the workers of Drakenstein. We thank them for their hard work, long hours, dedication, and for often walking that extra mile that makes a difference to a client, member of the public, or a colleague. Workers form the backbone of Drakenstein’s strong and varied labour pool, and this month we pay tribute to them.

One business that is more than happy to be based in Drakenstein is Fabrinox in Charleston Hill. They don’t only offer tailor-made and versatile engineering works solutions for local and international clients but also ensure jobs for local workers and supports community projects. Read more about these “men of steel” and their incredible standards and ethics. At the Val de Vie Estate, we learnt all there is to know about the “sport of kings”, polo, as well as their super-fast polo ponies. Did you know you can come and watch these polo matches for free – just bring your picnic basket and blanket! Vars went shopping and visited the lively Freedom Weekend Market at Freedom Village on the R301 in Southern Paarl. With 60 vendors putting their best foot forward every Saturday and Sunday, it is not difficult to see why this market is so popular especially among Capetonians. It encapsulates authentic country life and the warmth and hospitality of Drakenstein’s people. We also popped in at Butterfly House in Fairyland , a very special place. We learnt how this community resources centre offers a safe space for approximately 300 kids and teaches them how to grow and develop into healthy, well-adjusted adults. Our ward committee profile is on the dynamic and hardworking, yet compassionate committee of Ward 7 that is ready to face any challenge to improve the lives of their residents.
