S P O R T S ROCKLAND CANOEIST WINS GOLD AT 2018 ONTARIO SUMMER GAMES
Rockland canoeist Ben Davies won gold at the 2018 Ontario Summer Games, on Thursday, August 3, in London, Ontario. Ben Davies from Rockland, a member of the Petrie Island Canoe Club (PICC), brought home the gold medal for the C4 200 meter race in a four-man canoe. This was one of the final events of the flat water canoe and kayak regatta of the 2018 Ontario Summer Games in London, Ontario. Davies competed in five races over dis- tances of 200, 500 and 1000 meters, but his C4 crew controlled the event and was able to take the finishing line just metres ahead of the second-place team. Davies was a member of a team of five paddlers from PICC to go to the Ontario Summer Games and the team brought home five medals in total – one gold, two silver and two bronze medals. PICC is a non-profit, volunteer-run organi- zation serving Eastern Ottawa communities such as Orléans, Cumberland, Navan and Clarence-Rockland, by providing local recrea- tional paddling programs. Davies has been a member for five years now and has won many medals and ribbons at regattas in and around Ottawa over the years. Next, Davies has his eyes set on the provincial canoe/kayak team and, eventually, the Olympic games. More in the near future, however, Davies will be competing with his team at the Ontario Canoe Sprint Racing Affiliation Ontario Championships at the National Water Sports Centre in Welland, near Niagara, Ontario.

Un canoéiste de Rockland, Ben Davies, a remporté la médaille d’or aux Jeux d’été de l’Ontario 2018, le 3 août, à London en Ontario. Il faisait partie d’une équipe de cinq pour assister aux Jeux d’été de l’Ontario et l’équipe a remporté cinq médailles au total : une d’or, deux d’argent et deux de bronze. FOR THE ROCKLAND POSITION The candidate required for the Rockland position must be able to write in both English and French. FOR THE HAWKESBURY POSITION For the Hawkesbury position, we are looking for a French writer who is also able to understand English.
