F EATURE SPOTLIGHT ON TRAINERS
The Cotswolds is home to the greatest racecourse in the world, but also houses some of Jump racing’s biggest names. From Jonjo O’Neill to Kim Bailey, there are plenty of well-known trainers enjoying all the Cotswolds has to oer, so we sent The Cotswold Gent to have a chat with a few of the smaller trainers around the area… Local heroes FIVE TO FOLLOW
Glencassley Despite him still being a youngster, he has already turned into one of the yard favourites. He is still a big baby, but he should win his novice under a penalty when stepped up to 2m4f and then will run in some of the nicer novice hurdles this autumn. Glimpse Of Gala Unbelievably she is still a maiden after being consistently placed in bumpers. She will be winning her maiden hurdle before long and going on to bigger and better things. Saint Dalina She is now o a hurdle handicap mark of 130 and the priority this season will be to get some ‘black type’, and go chasing! Almazhar Garde He has been a fantastic horse over the past few years, and it’s easy to forget he is only six. As he is a Novice over hurdles, we might change plan this season and aim him at a few of the bigger novices and see how far he can go. Glen Forsa He is a high-quality looking horse who I bought this spring. I am keen to step him up to 3m and he just gives me the impression that he is a stayer. I would love him to turn into a Grand National horse.
CHARLIE LONGSDON Charlie gained much of his experience as Assistant Trainer to both Kim Bailey and subsequently Nicky Henderson, before taking his licence in 2006. He started training from Cotswold Stud near Moreton in Marsh prior to moving to his current purpose-built base at Hull Farm just outside of Chipping Norton, where he has trained over 550 winners.
