Of those that didn’t participate, nearly three quarters said the programwas- n’t applicable to them or they made their own mulch rather than use the program. Household Hazardous Waste – 77.1 per cent of survey participants are aware of the Household Hazardous Waste program, and 39.4 per cent of those have participated in the program in the past year. Of those that didn’t participate, 78.8 per cent said it wasn’t applicable to them, meaning they had no hazardous waste to dispose of. The majority of survey respondents (64.9 per cent) prefer receiving information on waste diversion programs through print material. Nearly half of those surveyed (49.4 per cent) have visited the city website in the past year.
The Journal The city of Cornwall enjoys a high level of awareness and involvement among res- idents in its recycling program, a new sur- vey suggests. A total of 96.1 per cent of respondents in a recent survey said they were aware of the City’s curbside recycling program. Of those, 87.1 per cent said they participated in the program in the past year, with the ma- jority of them – 85.3 per cent – taking part every two weeks. The survey was conducted in February, prior to the switch to weekly recycling col- lection in April. Of the 12.9 per cent of respondents who didn’t participate in the recycling program, more than half of them identified the lack of a recycling box as the main reason for not taking part, while 16.5 per cent said the pro- gram was inconvenient. The city has already taken steps to address these issues by moving to weekly recycling collection and supplying a new recycling box to every household. “The new blue boxes and the switch to weekly recycling have been well-received, and we believe it will lead to an even higher participation rate in our recycling pro-
