Operation

Ensure proper power is connected to the disconnect from the building breaker panel. The blue “Power” indicator should be illuminated. Turn the red disconnect handle to the “On” position. Push the “Fan On” button to start the fan. To shut the fan down, push the “Fan Off” button. If the control panel detects a fault, it will automatically shut the fan motor off. See the troubleshooting section of this manual to determine common causes of motor faults. To adjust the speed of the fan, turn the “Fan Speed” potentiometer up or down. Higher numbers on the dial represent faster fan speed. Lower numbers on the dial represent slower fan speed. Push the “Lights On” button to turn on the lights. To shut the lights off, push the “Lights Off” button. Sequence of Operation 120vac control power is sent to fire suppression control panel (by others). The fire suppression control panel contains a normally closed contact that allows power to return to VFD control panel so long as the suppression system is not faulted. Operator pushes fan on button, power is sent to the coil of CR1 relay. Power energizes the coil of CR1 relay. CR1 relay pulls in and sends fan run command to VFD. VFD sends power out to motor. Motor runs at speed set point on display. VFD detects voltage output and closes MA & MC contact which allows control power to flow to coil of CR2 relay. CR2 relay pulls in and sends power to Fan On indicator light, and to the terminal block 4. Optional Features (when field connected) After power reaches terminal block 4, it feeds to optional door limit switches. If all doors are proven closed, power returns to terminal 40. After power reaches terminal 40, a factory jumper allows power to continue to terminal 42. Remove this factory jumper if other optional interlock equipment is required to shut off the compressed air solenoid for the spray equipment. After power reaches terminal block 42, it feeds out to the hot side of the compressed air solenoid. The solenoid energizes and allows compressed air to feed to the spray equipment.

Sequence of Operation (cont.)

Operator presses “Lights On” button. 120vac control power feeds to the coil of the lighting contactor (LC1). The contactor pulls in and allows power to flow to terminal 29A which feeds power out to the booth light fixtures.

Troubleshooting Symptom

Possible Solution

Confirm proper incoming voltage at the bottom of disconnect switch between terminals T1 and T2.

Fan motor does not start

Confirm V1000 VFD display is illuminated and showing a frequency reference ie: F60.00. If fault code is displayed, check VFD manual. Confirm fire suppression equipment is wired correctly (normally closed) between terminals 1 and 3. Check VFD fuses by removing them and testing for continuity across each fuse. Voltage test at the bottom of the fuses is not accurate due to possible back feed from VFD.

Symptom

Possible Solution

Motor is wired incorrectly. Motor can be wired for use on various voltages. Use schematic on name plate of motor to properly connect motor for voltage being applied. Motor is overloaded. Use amp meter to determine if motor is pulling too many amps based on motor name plate. Remote belts from motor and attempt to run with no belts. Single phase motor is connected. Single phase motor will not operate when connected to a VFD.

Fan motor starts but makes humming noise

Symptom

Possible Solution

Check VFD for fault code (see page 8). Use VFD manual to determine how to remedy fault.

Fan motor runs for a few moments then turns off

Checking VFD Fault History:

Power up the VFD and the display should have a number between F00.00 and F60.00

Press the down arrow several times until the display reads out a backwards 7 forwards 7 and lowercase on which stand for “Mon”

Press the enter button and the display will change to U1-01

Use the > button to move to the U1 then use the up arrow to change the display to read U3-01

Press the enter button and the 01 will begin to flash. Press the enter button again and the drive will display the most recent fault. Make note of the fault, then check the V1000 manual for solutions.

Symptom

Possible Solution

Confirm proper incoming voltage on top of LC1 contactor between terminals L1 and Neutral Block With light switch turned on, check for voltage on terminal T1 of LC1 contactor. If voltage is present, check wiring to light fixtures. With light switch turned on, check for proper voltage on contactor between terminals A1 and A2

Lights do not turn on

Symptom

Possible Solution

Incorrect voltage applied between terminal A1 and A2 on contactor coil. Use volt meter to confirm the voltage between terminals A1 & A2 matches what is printed on the coil. Debris has accumulated on the inside of the contactor. Try gently tapping on the side of the contactor while turning it on and off. Disconnect power then disassemble contactor and clean coil/iron core area. If problem persists, replace contactor.

Light contactor makes buzzing noise when lights are on.

Preventative Maintenance Schedule Timeframe

Operation

Check motor amperage with amp meter or use VFD to display amps by pressing up arrow 3 times.

Once per month

Check belt tension on all fans

Disconnect power coming into the control panel. Ensure all wiring connections are tight.

Once per year

Disconnect power coming into the control panel. Remove junction box cover from the motor and check wire nut connections. Inspect junction box/motor for unusual discoloration which could indicate overheating.
