government for legislative change to the Social Housing Services Corporation (SHSC) and its procurement policies. The goal is to allow municipalities to go to tender for insurance and natural gas purchases for social housing projects. The EOWC also wants improvements to the medical priority dispatch system to increase efficiency for ambulance service. A dedicated provincial fund for roads and bridges is on the minds of caucus members for future infrastructure improvement needs. The EOWC will also continue to lobby the province for changes to the farm and managed forest property tax system. Some prudent and cost-effective spending last year may pay off with a small surplus for Alfred-Plantagenet Township. The township’s 2011 financial summary suggests that the municipality may have finished the year with a $250,000 in leftover budget funds. The snow storms that slammed the township in January may have eaten into that surplus with demands for extra spending on snow removal. The township may still have at least $100,000 left of its potentail surplus. Ad- ministration would like to see the money put into the reserve against future policing costs. Wardens for every county in Eastern Ontario gathered in Kingston to choose the person to lead the region in dealings with the provincial and federal governments for the next year. Mel Campbell of Leeds &Grenville is the new chairman for the Eastern Ontario Wardens Caucus (EOWC) for 2012 with Warden Janet Gutowski of Frontenac as the caucus’ vice-chair for the year. Campbell promised to continue the team-effort approach that has been a winning strategy for the region in the past. “I am humbled by the support shown to me by my colleagues and will endeavour to move the 2012 EOWC priorities forward,” stated Campbell in a press release. “The successes which the EOWC has enjoyed over the past years can be attributed to the commitment of our wardens to work cohesively resulting in a strong team effort. The EOWC focus for the year continues on economic development, fiscal issues, and legislative changes that will affect Eas- tern Ontario counties and their member municipalities. Projects for the regional caucus in the economic development field include developing an Eastern Ontario Development Strategy along with continuing the current Eastern Ontario Regional Network to enhance Internet access for all parts of the region through high-speed broadband service. The EOWC also wants to see the Eastern Ontario Development Fund improved. The caucus will lobby the provincial

So it was the perfect place for the inaugural Glissade de la famille\Family Slide Party January 29 as part of Carnival weekend in Wendover. Tobaggans, sleds, crazy carpets, innertubes, and anything else that could slip and slide downhill got a real workout Sunday morning and there was even a visit with the children from Bonhomme.
