Each credit union operates as a democratic, member-owned financial co-operative, meticulously designed to serve the interests of its members, all of whom share a common bond. By combining their resources, members gain various benefits that enhance their financial well- being and empower them by ensuring their savings work effectively. Altura Credit Union stands as a pillar of our communities, proudly operating since 1966. Altura is one of the larger credit unions in Ireland, serving over 55,000 members and managing assets exceeding €260 million. Our primary offerings include online banking, current account, flexible loans and savings accounts. At Altura Credit Union, every member holds an equal vote - one member, one vote - empowering them to actively participate in the decisions that shape our future, regardless of their savings or transaction volume. Altura Credit Union Difference

Altura Credit Union Volunteers At the heart of every credit union is its volunteers. Unlike other financial institutions, the Board of Directors (BoD) and Board Oversight Committee (BOC) in a credit union are made up of volunteers - members who have the skills and knowledge to lead and manage it. In addition to the board, there are a number of committees set up to perform specific functions within the credit union. Whether you aspire to take on a leadership role, seek valuable experience and training, or wish to give back to your community while connecting with like-minded individuals, credit unions present invaluable opportunities for you to make a meaningful difference

Altura Credit Union Induction & Training At Altura Credit Union, we proudly welcome all our volunteers. Upon joining, we use a buddy system so each new volunteer has a mentor to help them navigate their roles and responsibilities smoothly. Ongoing support ensures volunteers are comfortable in their roles. We believe in empowering our volunteers through targeted training, ensuring everyone feels confident and equipped to make a difference. If additional training is needed, we promptly provide it to equip our volunteers with the essential skills and knowledge necessary for them to thrive and excel in their tasks. Our goal is to make sure you not only have the tools you need but also truly enjoy your volunteering experience with us!

Altura Credit Union Time & Commitment Volunteering with a credit union is an amazing opportunity to make a real difference in your community, but it’s important to come prepared for a meaningful commitment. Before diving in, take a moment to assess your availability to ensure you can fully embrace the responsibilities that come with this role. Be ready for committee meetings that typically span one to two hours, depending on what’s on the agenda. Your level of engagement will vary depending on the committees you decide to join. The Board of Directors meets once a month for up to three hours, so it’s wise to carve out an additional three hours for thorough preparation before each gathering. Embracing this role means you’re ready to make a substantial impact within the community while effectively managing your time

We Service Members’ Needs In Counties:

Altura Credit Union Areas We Service We currently have ten branches across four counties. Of these, our head office is in Gorey, Co. Wexford. We plan to open a branch in Kilmuckridge, to better serve our Wexford regions south of Gorey in the coming years. We have seven branches in Co Wicklow. These are well positioned to serve the entire county. In Kildare, we have a branch in Castledermot. In Carlow, we have a branch in Hacketstown. We would encourage volunteers to get involved from all of the areas we serve, so we can better understand and engage with each area to the best of our ability.
