ROLE CONTEXT Campus Services (CS) employs over 900 staff with a turnover exceeding £50m in the last financial year. CS plays a key role in the quality of the student, staff, and visitor experience, providing services across diverse areas such as the University’s sporting facilities, food and beverage, cleaning, community safety and security, conferencing, hotel operations, day nurseries, portering, post, branded and own-brand retail outlets, visitor services and attractions (e.g., Winterbourne House & Gardens), student housing, transport, waste disposal and recycling. CS is a highly commercial organisation operating within the University context and has an ambitious strategic agenda, in terms of growing our service profile across both our Birmingham and Dubai campuses.

ROLE SUMMARY The post-holder is responsible for the strategic management, leadership and development of the Community Safety and Security teams, alongside leading on Emergency Planning for the University. This service needs to be resilient and available to the University community and its partners, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

As a University with international reach and 24-hour operations, including student accommodation, teaching and learning, events, and sport; there is a challenging mix of pre-planned activity and spontaneous incidents to oversee and support. The post is a focal point for operational planning, as well as being responsible for developing, maintaining, and managing the University Emergency Plan. When incidents and emergencies happen, the post holder will support the activities necessary to enable an effective response working in conjunction and liaison with University Senior Officers and the Emergency Services.
