Example 1 Finding Volumes of Pyramids

The volume of a rectangular pyramid is determined in this example. The length and width of the base and the height of the pyramid are given. To find the volume of the pyramid, substitute the given values into the formula for the volume of a pyramid. The area of the base is the base length times the base width. The volume of the pyramid is 40 ft 3 .

The volume of a square pyramid is determined in this example. The length of a base edge and the height of the pyramid are given. To find the volume of the pyramid, substitute the given values into the formula for the volume of a pyramid. The area of the base is the base edge length squared. The volume of the pyramid is 100 in 3 .
