12.1.3 Rotations Key Objectives • Identify and draw rotations. Example 1 Identifying Rotations

Whether a transformation is a rotation is determined in this example.

A rotation is a transformation about a point P , called the center of rotation, such that each point and its image are the same distance from P , and such that all angles with vertex P formed by a point and its image are congruent. To determine if a transformation is a rotation, look for a center of rotation. There appears to be a center of rotation and the preimage and image are congruent figures. The transformation appears to be a rotation.

Whether a transformation is a rotation is determined in this example.

To determine if a transformation is a rotation, look for a center of rotation. There does not appear to be a center of rotation and the preimage and image are not congruent figures. The transformation appears not to be a rotation.
