power of death was completely defeated, hut he is allowed access to the earth, even to God’s own people; for he is now the Lord’s testing instrument. But Satan knows he must meet Christ again. He’s pre paring for it today. The basic meaning of our world turmoil is that Satan is soon to come down with great wrath knowing that his time is short. He will be mar shalling the nations for the battle of the great day of God Almighty (Rev. 16:13-14 and 19:11-21). That battle will not be a spiritual battle, as was the temptation in the wilderness, but a battle in which the nations shall fight against the redeemed, with Christ leading. Then it will be demonstrated that Satan is the prince of this world order and is the ruler of the nations. The devil will be defeated and the nations judged. Satan is now softening up the nation by propaganda preparatory to taking over. He seems to be capturing America’s educational and religious life, and he guides the thinking of many people. Satan is teaching men to believe the following lies in preparation for the coming of Anti-Christ. First, there is no personal God in the universe. Anti- Christ will emphasize that, so he can present himself as God. Second, man is the god of his own world. Many scientists and apostate religionists are saying that man is the highest thing in the universe; and he must not only work out his destiny here upon earth, but now he must open new frontiers and perhaps conquer (at least) our solar system and become master of it. Who but Satan could inspire man to do that? His boast is “ I will exalt my throne above the stars of heaven; I will sit in the place of the most High; I will be as God.” Third, the Anti-Christ will say, “ I am the official and final representative of humanity. Worship me and humanity worships itself.” That is being taught today. Christ in Revelation 13:13 says, “ Here is wisdom, let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man, and his number is six hundred threescore and six.” That mystic figure “ 666” could readily portray man exalted to his highest power. The number of the Beast, which is Anti-Christ, says the Book of Revelation, is the number of a man. Six is man’s number. Seven, the num ber of perfection, is God’s number. Man has never reached perfection, but in Anti-Christ he reaches his ultimate in blasphemy. A trinity of evil is presented in the three 6’s—666. Proud men are crying, “ Away with God! If there is a God, He is a prisoner behind the barriers of natural law. What we must do is to exalt and worship ourselves and consummate our own programs. We have science in all of its forms —biology and the miracles of scientific heal ing; psychology, psychiatry that probes into the recesses of men’s souls examining and evaluating not only the actions of men but also their motives; men now weigh the planets and count the stars; electronics has trans formed our world; aeronautics moves us faster than sound; inter-planetary flights seem near; men may explore the Milky Way and the bands of Orion. Men are gods! We need no other God!” Satan’s promise to Eve nears completion; Anti-Christ will marshall and arrange the results of man’s material achievement; crown himself with its tinselled glory and claim thereby to crown the whole human family. What seems a glorious consummation of man’s restless strivings will temporarily appear. Satan will have done his awful best. Then the returning Christ will come and destroy this blasphemous order and set up God’s Kingdom. — Poem on adjoining column by Ruth Gibbs Zwall
