So, 25 years have flown by, and I find myself back for the Christchurch Boys’ High game as one of those buggers I’d seen 25 years earlier. We had a fantastic few days catching up with friends, Old Boys and coaches from both schools. It was great to see so many people again after 25 years, maybe a bit grey and with less hair, but still in great form. The game topped it all off and I can’t believe how passionate we all still are. What a great game. The win was pretty special! But, really, what made the few days was catching up with old mates. Thank you very much to all involved in pulling it together. I look forward to seeing everyone in another 25 years – or hopefully before.

Our reunion followed a proven formula. Early notice saw 17 College team members turn up at No.4 – a record I think – for a get together with eight members from the Christchurch Boys’ High team. It was great to catch up with Richard Jamieson, Johnny McAuliffe, Mick Nicholls, Allan Kindred and the Joseph brothers. The following day, we were welcomed to College for morning tea in the School House Library. Scrooge Kerr (7445) was heard to say it must be the only time the library is used, as in his day no one in School House could read! After a tour of the school and a very nice informal lunch, it was off to the game at Boys’ High with reserved seats in the impressive stand. The game, I thought, was outstanding. College got off to a slow start, but fought back well and dominated the lineouts. The win to College put the 1967 team in a great mood for drinks at the RSA, and an evening meal with partners at the newly reopened Christchurch Club. The club is absolutely amazing and 30 of us enjoyed a beautiful meal in a private room. A toast was given to two members of the team, Johnny Gordon (7419) and Mic Hennessy (7431), who are no longer with us.
