Schools championship to claim their first ever South Island title – marking another historic sporting achievement for College this year. The team travelled to Palmerston North for the Secondary Schools Nationals in early October. Pool play involved five matches, with the top two teams advancing to the quarter-finals. The tournament began with a 79–68 win against Cashmere and a 77–53 win vs. Wellington College, which was a key win for the team in the pool. These games were followed by wins over Kelston Boys’ High School and New Plymouth Boys’ High School, and a showdown against one of the tournament favourites, Palmerston North Boys’ High School. In a close match, College lost 50–47 to finish 2nd in the pool. The team beat Auckland Grammer 79–74 in the quarter-final and went up against Rosmini College in the semi-final. In a very close encounter, College was ahead late in the 4th quarter, but the opposition rallied to send the game into overtime. Rosmini then jumped ahead and held on to win 76–72. Canterbury teams, with six members of the 1st XI squad playing in the two U18 sides that won their respective national tournaments, and five other players in Canterbury U15 sides. Congratulations to Nick Lidstone and Louis Beckert who have been selected to attend national U18 development camps. BASKETBALL The Senior A basketball squad has built on the successes of previous years. The team made the final of the Thomson Trophy competition, where they lost narrowly 62–60 to Cashmere High School in a thrilling match, before they reversed this result in the final of the South Island Secondary
