“ Being then made free from sin, ye be came the servants of righteousness” (Rom. 6:18). If you and I refuse to face up to sin, and master it, it will master us, and life will not be worth living under its tyranny. When you and I play for safety, when we persuade ourselves that we must be care ful not to offend powerful interests, we are condemning ourselves to the most awful, abject slavery in the world. What a misery David’s life was made, just because he did not take his stand on the occasion of Abner’s murder and punish the offender I — D onald D avidson . Oh, for grace to wait and watch with God, though a horror of great darkness fall upon us, or sleep steals into our eyes, or the head becomes thickly sown with the grey hair of age I One blow struck when the time is fulfilled is worth a thousand struck in premature eagerness. It is not for thee, O my soul, to know the times and seasons which the Father hath put in His own power; wait thou only upon God; let thy expectation be from Him; wait at the gates of thy Jericho for yet seven days; utter not a sound till He says, “ Shout,” but when He gives the signal, with the glad cry of vic tory thou shalt pass over the fallen wall into the city.—F. B . M eyer . JULY 21 Divine Steadfastness "W ait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord” (Psa. 27:14). “ Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them” (Heb. 7:25). Why should I lean ifpon a broken reed when I have the Rock of Ages to stand upon that shall never be moved ? God is not only a help, but a present help; the gates of the new Jerusalem stand open night and day. Do not say I preach despair. I des pair of no one, when I consider that God had mercy on George Whitefield. — G eorge W hitfield . If you and your burdens were as heavy as ten hills or hells, He is able to bear you, and save you to the uttermost. — S am u el R utherford . “And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power” (Col. 2 : 10 ). May God Himself work in us the long ing desire for a personal knowledge of His presence in our life, a conscious knowledge of our union with Him. Before you go further will you not bow and tell Him that you are now willing to be separated from those binding, hindering things and let Him work in you the consciousness of the reality of this union with Christ Jesus? Bow be fore Him now; thank Him that you are JULY 22 Omnipotent Grace JULY 23 Complete Union with Christ

JULY 24 A Radiant Path

"But if w e walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with an other, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). Walk in the light I So shalt thou know That fellowship of love His Spirit only can bestow, Who reigns in light above. Walk in the light 1 Thy path shall be Peaceful, serene, and bright; For God, by grace, shall dwell in thee, And God Himself is light. — B ernard B arton . “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (Phil. 4:6). Prayer is an acknowledgement of faith; worry is a denial of faith. Prayer is put ting my hand in God’s, trusting to His loving guidance; worry is withdrawing my hand, and denying His power to lead me. Prayer leads through the door of faith into the presence of G od; worry leads through the door of anxiety into the darkness of loneliness and discouragement. If prayer rules the life, victory results. —Alliance Weekly. JULY 26 His Life Through Us "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me” (John 15:4). The Christian life, in its very essence, is CAraf-expression; it is the loveliness of the Lord Jesus being manifested through a human personality. . . “ Christ liveth in me,” and there is no lovelier beauty than that— the outshining of His loveliness, His graces, His virtues, His sweetness. . . . He is the Altogether Lovely One. — C aptain ’ R eginald W allis . JULY 25 Worry or Worship?
