As I engage in the daily battle to keep her close and say goodbye, here are some lessons I’m learning (and vows I’m making) about my future both person- ally and professionally. I WILL BECOME BOLDER. Nothing would make Mom more proud or happy than to know that some of the bigger outlandish ideas I have will likely come to fruition because, in my sadness, I feel bolder. I feel like someone telling me “no” or “never gonna happen” will be like being stabbed with a feather compared to the gut-wrenching pain I am feeling at the prospect of losing my Mom. What does this have to do with real estate? More than you think. When you hesitate in pursuing your investing goals, think of the legacy you will leave behind for your children, the success you will

How do you even begin to say goodbye to your Mom? Sadly, the above statement is familiar to far too many people who have lost loved ones to cancer. I don’t know if it is better to know she is fading away from us or for her to go quickly without pain. W
I WILL HAVE FAITH. My mother constantly affirms (in- cluding the day she got this latest news while sitting in the oncologist’s office), “I am not afraid.” She has unwavering faith. I admire not just the faith, but also the unwavering part of her. I will emulate it and I will not back down. What does this have to do with real estate? Nothing in life is a sure thing. Wheth- er we’re talking business or the afterlife, sometimes you have to believe in the things you cannot prove or actually see, and that includes having faith in yourself, your pro- cess, and your outcomes when you invest. I WILL CARE FOR OTHERS. Yesterday, I spent the better part of my time with three good friends and
