Sweet lessons about maple syrup culture
The SouthNationConservationAuthority (SNC) offers its annual Maple EducationProgramthrough March until April 5. SNC, in partnershipwith SandRoadMaple Farm inMoose Creek, offers school groups, fromKindergarten to grade 12, a hands-on bilingual interpretive tour, through the SandRoad sugar bush, of the culture of maple syrup production inOntario andQuébec. SNC interpreters will explain the history ofmaple sugaring fromwhen First Nations folks boiledmaple sap in hollowed-out logs, to the huge cast-iron cauldrons early settlers used for their maple-sugaring, and the modern evaporators that are now part of the production process. The tour session includes lesson in tree identification andwoodlotmanagement. Tours for adults and non-school groups are also available through advance bookings.
