KNOW YOUR FORMS Determine the types of financial aid forms that are required and make note of the filing deadlines. (They are frequently different from admission deadlines.) All American citizen and permanent resident aid applicants must file the FAFSA. Most aid applicants will need to file both the FAFSA and the CSS/PROFILE. Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Virtually all colleges require this form. It determines your eligibility for all forms of federal aid and the state scholarship program. You can submit the FAFSA as early as October 1. Internet Filing: File the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov DO NOT: Complete more than one FAFSA CSS/PROFILE Many private colleges (along with some private scholarship programs and public colleges) require this form. The PROFILE may only be filed online. If you have general PROFILE questions, call 1-305-420-3670 or help@cssprofile.org. PROFILE registration should be completed in the fall of senior year – at least two (2) weeks before your first financial aid deadline. It goes “live” on October 1. Internet Filing: File the PROFILE at cssprofile.collegeboard.org Institutional Forms Some colleges have their own aid forms in addition to the forms listed above. Check with each college and follow its instructions. FEE WAIVERS If you think you qualify for a waiver of submission fees for the PROFILE, please talk with your college counselor. Additional Information If your family has financial circumstances that are not covered on any of the forms above, write a letter describing your situation and send it to the financial aid offices of the colleges to which you are applying. Important note: Check, double check, and triple check all information. You can make corrections, but it causes delays, which can be very costly.
