Battles, Jr. Grand Polemarch Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated 2322-24 North Broad Street Philadelphia, PA 19132-4590 Re: Elder Watson Diggs Award Letter of Support Greetings Brother Grand Polemarch, I am writing to recommend Mr. John F. Burrell for consideration of the Elder Watson Diggs Award for meritorious service and contributions to Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. I have known Brother Burrell for over five years now, as a mentor and advisor to undergraduate and alumni members across Kappa Alpha Psi. He has held multiple leadership roles during his time as a member such as Polemarch of the Jacksonville Alumni Chapter, Southern Province and National MOIP Chairman, and currently as Executive Director of the Fraternity. Brother Burrell has been the recipient of the Jacksonville Alumni Chapter Man of the Year Award and led the Jacksonville Alumni Chapter to become the 2003 Paul W. Cain International Large Alumni Chapter of the Year. Brother Burrell has proven to be a great example to our younger brothers through his judgement, open personality, initiative, and willingness to work hard. During my tenure as Junior Province Vice Polemarch of the Southern Province, Brother Burrell was a consistent figure there to guide and keep me on track as I took on a new role in the fraternity. As an undergraduate member who lost their chapter advisor to unforeseen circumstances, I would often find myself turning to and confiding in Brother Burrell in times of need. I credit Brother Burrell for helping me shape what being a “Kappa Man” means to me. Serving on a multitude of fraternal committees, coordinating gatherings and leadership development opportunities, and working to charter the Bossier City (LA) Alumni Chapter, Brother Burrell has brought many ideas on how to move this organization forward and is always thinking about how brothers can communicate with each other and the community in more meaningful and understandable ways. Brother Burrell has shown significant achievement and has provided substantial contributions to the greater good of Kappa Alpha Psi. He is always willing to help, motivated to succeed, and I am sure he will continue to grow exponentially if selected as an Elder Watson Diggs Awardee. It is with great pleasure that I recommend Brother John F. Burrell as a worthy recipient of the Elder Watson Diggs Award. Yours in the Bond, Aaron Dixon 83 rd Guy L. Grant Awardee Spring 2014 Gamma Phi Chapter Initiate
