D urwood Emory (Durk) Corley, 93, passed away June 15, 2019. He was born in Olney, Texas on August 24, 1925. He grew up in Olney and graduated from Olney High School in May of 1942. In September 1942, Mr. Corley enrolled in Texas Technical College (now Texas Tech University), to study Electrical Engineering. During World War II, he entered the United States Navy and served as an Electronic Technician’s Mate. During a leave from the U.S. Navy he married Miss Rodway “Roddye” Sue Keen of Sierra Blanca, Texas, having met on a tennis court at Texas Tech. His wife was with him as he served at various duty stations around the country. Upon discharge from the U.S. Navy, Mr. Corley returned to Texas Tech and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering in May 1947. His first employment after college was with Schlumberger Well Surveying Corp. as a Field Engineer in Midland. He was later District Manager for Schlumberger in Spur and Haskell, Texas. In 1953, he and a few other engineers formed the Elgen Corporation, a successful wireline well logging company. Elgen had many operating bases throughout the southwestern and

in Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. They now offer Freightliner and Western Star trucks for sale, service and lease.

Durk was an avid airplane pilot and logged many hours in his beloved Bellancas.

In 1983, Riley-Benard White Trucks of San Angelo was acquired by Durk Corley and renamed Corley Freightliner.

Corley–Wetsel Freightliner of Abilene began in February 1966 when D. E. (Durk) Corley and C. S. (Sid) Wetsel purchased the Claude Jones White Trucks dealership, which was an authorized White Truck Dealer, and renamed it Corley-Wetsel White Truck, Inc. In the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, Corley-Wetsel remained a dual dealer, representing both Freightliner and White Motor Company. In the mid 1980’s, the White line was dropped and Corley-Wetsel became an exclusive Freightliner Dealership and the name was changed to Corley-Wetsel Freightliner. In 1980, Mr. Wetsel passed away and Durk Corley assumed the management of the dealership. In 1967, Mr. Corley and his wife, Sue Corley, formed C & W Leasing Corporation – a company dedicated to heavy duty truck leasing. These two organizations have grown into a network of 24 service facilities

In February 2001, Corley-Westsel Freightliner | Abilene and Corley Freightliner | San Angelo became part of Lonestar Truck Group, one of the largest Freightliner and Western Star dealer groups in the United States encompassing 22 dealerships in nine states, with corporate office headquarters in Grapevine, Texas. C&W Leasing is a proud partner of Lonestar Truck Group | Tag Truck Center. Durk Corley was an early pioneer in the trucking industry. He passed his love of trucking to his son Vic Corley, currently a partner of Lonestar Truck Group | TAG Truck Center and third generation grandson’s Clay and Cade Corley also partners of Lonestar Truck Group | TAG Truck Center.

It’s About to Get Hot! ‑ Is Your Truck Ready?

During the summer months your truck is put to the test. The hotter ambient temperatures affect all of your systems, and push them to their limits. Here are some examples of just how the heat affects your truck. • Coolant – The coolant takes heat not only from the engine, but in many cases items such as fuel, power steering, oil, EGR, & transmission coolers as well. All of these components are experiencing higher temperatures, and put extra heat load on the coolant. • Radiator – The radiators primary role is to allow the ambient air passing over it to disperse heat from the coolant. This becomes harder during hot ambient temperatures due to several factors. In front of the radiator is a Charge-Air Cooler, and A/C Condenser. These systems are working harder in the summer and producing more heat. The already hot ambient air passes over these items first becoming hotter, then passes over the radiator. These systems, internal coolant flow, build up, as well as the airflow have a direct effect on the radiators performance. • A/C Condenser – A/C condenser’s job is to let ambient air flow across it and dissipate heat from the compressed refrigerant. • Charge-Air Cooler – The air is already hotter and thinner during the summer, which makes the turbo work harder and creates additional heat in the Charge-Air Cooler. The cooler takes the ambient air across it and attempts to reduce the compressed air from the turbo entering into your engine. • Engine Block – All of the engine components are hotter than normal due to heat buildup from the pulleys and alternator, to the oil and coolant running through the engine. Most of the engines cooling

comes from the coolant. However approximately 7% of the engine cooling comes from air flow under the hood, which also increases during the summer. • Fuel – The fuel system receives heat during the compression process and while traveling through the engine components. It then returns to the fuel tanks in an attempt to cool. However, the added engine temperatures, as well as the hotter ambient air make it harder to cool. Between the hotter fuel, and hotter air the engine has a harder time producing power. All of these items can stack up and put your truck on the side of the road. It is a good idea to have these systems checked out before they are stressed to the max during the summer heat. Here are some suggestions to combat the heat. • Have your truck run on a dyno. A dyno is like a stress test for your engine. It not only verifies engine performance, but it puts all of the previously mentioned system under load and verifies they can handle it as well. • Have an A/C performance test run on your truck to verify the integrity of your A/C system. • Inspect and test your coolant, not only the freeze point, but the coolant additives, as well as a pressure test to check for leaks. • Hoses and Belts– Inspect coolant, Charge-Air, power steering, fuel, transmission, and A/C hoses for signs of leaks, wear, loose clamps and fittings. Also check belts, pulleys, and tensioners for condition and proper operation. • Air flow – Verify that your radiator, Charge Air, and Condenser package have adequate air flow. They should not be plugged or have bent fins. Also inspect the fan shroud and fan blades. If they have cracks or missing pieces they should be replaced.

It’s HOT Out There!

The days are hot and your a/c is working overtime. With that in mind, it's a good idea to inspect your a/c system now and prevent costly downtime. Beat the heat with these tips:

Tip #1 Inspect & Clean the Condenser Look for problems like bent fins, loose or broken mounts, rubbing abrasion and build-up. Clean the condenser for maximum air flow, as well as any other airflow items mounted with it. These may include

Tip #2 Inspect Charge Ports The refrigerant charge ports

Tip #3 Inspect the Belts

The belts should be checked for signs of wear or damage. This may include cracks, pilling, separation, etc. See Link - https://www.gatestechzone. com/en/problem-diagnosis/ accessory-drive-system/micro- v-belt-wear-symptoms

should have caps that seal them off. Often times these caps are removed and lost. This not only allows for debris to build up, but the cap is the primary seal for the service port. So when the cap is missing, refrigerant may be lost causing inadequate cooing and possibly component damage.

the radiator, charge air cooler, transmission and fuel coolers.

Tip #4 Inspect the Fan & Fan Hub Inspect the fan and fan-hub mounting and verify they are secured properly. Inspect the hub for bearing play, air leaks and clutch damage. Inspect the fan base and blades for cracking or missing sections.

Tip #5 Inspect the A/C Hoses

Tip #6 Air Filters

A/C hoses are designed to be routed and secured in a specific manner. Often times, the hoses are not secured or routed properly. Over time this can cause abrasion and eventually broken or leaking hoses.

Most modern trucks have air filters for the HVAC system. Usually there are filters for fresh air, recirculated air and sleeper units. The filters should be changed periodically based on maintenance manual instructions, but also on an as-needed basis due to operating conditions.
