Do Something During the week ahead, turn your learning into doing.
Spend a few family devotions talking to your children about discipline, both God’s discipline of all his people—including you—and his instruction for parents to discipline their children. Use Hebrews 12:3- 11 for the former, and all the Proverbs passages above for the latter. Remembering that the family is God’s learning community, this teaching will help your children understand your responsibility to God on their behalf. Search Me, O God For introspection during the coming week. Do I discipline my children properly and effectively, as instructed in Scripture? If not, why not? Is it because I want my children to like me more than I want them to have godly character? Is it that I just don’t want to be bothered with the process, or I am too busy to devote the necessary time to it? Or is it because I am content to let others correct my children for me—my spouse, teachers, other parents? Am I intimidated by my children? Who in my life can encourage me and help me on this matter? Want to Know More? Studying the character of God’s discipline of his people is wonderfully helpful toward informing our discipline of our children. Read and study, for example, Job 36:5-15 ; Psalm 30:all , 103:8-14 , 119:65- 72 ; Lamentations 3:19-33 ; John 15:1-8 ; include the passage we studied today, Herews 12:3-11 , and its OT root, Proverbs 3:11-12 .
