2018 May agenda for Publication

the acceptance of Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), Cambridge International Exams, and other college level placement tests. In conjunction with the Executive Committee, as well as the President’s office, the committee has also been vital in conversations about examining the admissions process and policy for Central Washington University. This includes making sure that the multiple levels of policy and practice regarding university admissions are all working together and are aligned. Within this context of examining our admission process, the committee will also be examining the substantive questions regarding our standards for admission. Since policy on admissions is academic policy, this is a key task that the committee members will be undertaking beginning in late Spring and running through into next Fall. The committee also continues to work closely with the General Education Committee to revise policies and practices relating to the implementation of the new General Education Program. Lastly, the committee has been working on some key policies that are addressing issues and gaps that have been identified during the 2017-2018 academic year. For example, key conversations surrounding the protection of academic freedom in the classroom have occurred and will likely continue. Additionally, the committee has worked with the Provost’s office on drafts of policies, such as an attendance policy designed to confirm student attendance and remove students from classes they are not attending. This committee has examined several critical issues in Student Evaluation of Instruction (SEOI). While the goal of the committee has been to increase the response rates and other elements related to the validity and reliability of SEOI measures, the committee has also started to expand into other areas including developing some draft policies that guide the use of SEOIs on campus. Many of these policies being drafted have originated from issues that have been raised by the Senate and include: (1) review of advertisements for the SEOI to make sure any announcements or promotional materials are appropriate; (2) regulation of integrity and ethical issues with the implementation of SEOIs such as instructors providing extra credit for SEOI responses; and (3) examination of procedures to remove students from SEOI participation in extreme circumstances, for example, cases of cheating, plagiarism, and academic dishonesty during the course. Evaluation and Assessment is also working on conducting an assessment of both the Executive Committee as well as the Faculty Senate as a whole to provide feedback and refine Evaluation and Assessment:
