Ladies Night raises over 30,000$

The Russell Agricultural Society’s 13 th La- dies Night dinner and auctionwas held on FridayMay 6 and helped raise over 30,000$ for the Azheimer Society. Over the past 13 years, the Russell Ladies Night has raised more than 340,000$ for charitable organizations such as the Ca- nadian Cancer Society, ALS Canada and Juvenile Diabetes.This year’s event, themed Evening in Paris, was focused on raising funds for and awareness about Alzheimer’s and other dementias. David Turley, fromRussell, was the guest speaker for the evening and shared a heart- felt testimony about dealing with Alzheim- er’s disease. M. Turley acted as caretaker for many years after his wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Most of the proceeds, a total of 25,000$, were raised through the silent and live auc- tions and the other 5000$ was donated di- rectly to the cause by Scotiabank’s Team Scotia Community Program. Furthermore, in light of the recent events in northern Alberta, an artist was on site during the evening in order to create an oil painting.The painting was then auctioned off to raise funds for the victims of the Fort McMurray wildfires. “We are grateful for the generous dona- tions of products and services, the support of our event partners, sponsors, and the contribution of the 550 ladies who attended
