GOWRIE FARM IN THE KZN Midlands, a favourite des- tination for stay-and-play days are often clear and sunny, and afterwards you can warm yourself at a blazing fireplace in the clubhouse. It's a relatively small and intimate building, yet that's what lends it so much charm and character. Upstairs is more accom- modation. The pro shop, range and first tee are a short walk away. The one- tee start for guests is another enjoyable feature and the mark of a proper golf destination. As is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. GOWRIE FARM UNVEILS THE CROFTS golfers, has expanded their accom- modation offering to include nine villas (18 bedrooms) on a site called The Crofts, a short drive from the main clubhouse and lodge, in the di- rection of the new halfway house. A communal barn has been built where tour groups can gather for meals and entertainment. Other than at big re- sorts or courses attached to hotels, South Africa doesn't have enough of these "golfing venues" where you can stay on site, so Gowrie is to be com- mended for this initiative. It's a place where guests can absorb themselves in a traditional and com- fortable golfing environment, and count on everyone else being there for the same reason as themselves. And it can be enjoyed at any time of the year. Winters may be icy at times, but the
