MISSING UNRANKED TRIO
Two courses, the Els Club Copperleaf, a residential es- tate in Gauteng North (Ernie
Els design), and Euphoria, a bushveld estate in Limpopo (Annika Sorenstam design), have withdrawn themselves from the 2026 rankings. The Els Club was No 55, and Euphoria No 74. They join Silver Lakes, another Gauteng North residential estate (Peter Mat- kovich design), which withdrew af- ter the 2022 rankings when it was No 65. The management at all three golf clubs expressed disappointment with their positions in the Top 100 and asked that they no longer be rated. CRUISING AT KDM
King David Mowbray hosted an unusual 54-hole pro tour- nament in April when the
Sunshine Legends Tour came visit- ing. MSC Cruises were the tournament sponsors. What made their event very different was that after playing the first two rounds on Monday and Tues- day, the competitors headed for the Duncan Dock in Cape Town to board the MSC cruise ship, Opera. The ship headed out into the Atlantic Ocean for a short voyage with its cargo of golf- ers and returned in time for the final round on Friday. However, the ocean was by no means calm and certainly wasn't com- parable to cruising the Med or Carib- bean. Several of the seniors were still recovering from the motion sensa- tion of being at sea and hadn't prop- erly recovered their "land legs" when they teed off in the final round. Oth- ers were feeling sick. Golf is difficult enough without being unsteady on your feet. Fortunately for everyone other than the sponsors it began to rain and didn't stop. The round was cancelled. Andrew McLardy (68-68) was the victor, after a playoff against Sienda Sithebe (68-68).
