umerous corporations continue to target southcentral PA as

a prime location to expand manufacturing and distribu- tion operations. Convenient rail access and close proxim- ity to major interstates along with financial incentives at the state and local levels continue to make the area a desirable location for growth. Hanover, PA based design/ build contractor Conewago Enterprises, Inc. continues to be called upon to construct many of these complex, large- scale projects. Hub One Logistics tapped

Conewago to construct a 400,000 s/f warehouse space in AntrimCommons in Green- castle, PA that was completed in September 2013, three months ahead of schedule. The

tilt-up concrete and conven- tional steel structure included a 90,000 s/f freezer/cooler and was awarded LEED Silver cer- tification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)

in January 2014. First LEED Gold Certi- fied Elevator Production Facility in the Nation Another Conewago project recognized by the USGBC

was the new Schindler Eleva- tor Manufacturing facility in Hanover, PA. The 150,000 s/f, state-of-the art building is the first elevator produc- tion facility in the United States to achieve LEED Gold certification. Schindler’s new Hanover facility will support their entire North American market and the strategic location will allow them to achieve some of the shortest customer delivery lead times in the industry. Conewago handled con- struction on a design/build basis. The project featured notable sustainability ele- ments such as a 665 kilowatt, 2,176 solar panel installation, an innovative “zero discharge” water system and two electric vehicle charging stations. Conewago was also able to recycle over 95% of the con- struction waste on the project, substantially eclipsing their goal of 75% recycling. Region’s Largest Dis- tribution Center Nears Completion Most recently, Conewago is in the final phase of con- struction on a 1.7 million s/f distribution center for Liberty Property Trust. The project is located on a 182-acre site directly adjacent to Interstate 81 in Shippensburg, PA. Once completed in July, it will be the largest distribution center in the region and one of larg- est commercial structures in the United States. “Our ability to self-perform many construction services and successful track record on numerous complex design/ build projects throughout the region make us an ideal partner for corporations and developers seeking to expand in central PA and beyond,” said Donald Smith, Jr. , president of Conewago Enter- prises, Inc. “We are excited to see the commercial building market continue to gain trac- tion in this area and are ready to help our clients capitalize on opportunities.” n
