TZ King Memorial Cup Awarded to the student who upholds integrity, faithful allegiance and honour in School House Gus Orr Housemaster’s Cup Awarded to the student whose contribution to the House was significant this year Louis Elworthy Head of School House Cup Louis Elworthy Traditionally, we host a dinner in the House Library for our Year 13 leavers and their parents, which the entire House and staff usually attend. Sadly because of Alert Level 2 restrictions, it was not possible this year. We were fortunate enough to change this to a luncheon and we are very grateful to Nadene Milne for opening the Nadene Milne Gallery up for us to host the luncheon. It was a perfect setting to recognise our leavers and their parents. Traditionally the end of the evening, the boys in Years 9–12 perform a rousing College haka as a final farewell to the leavers. This was performed after our House prize- giving the night before. An extract from my speech to the leavers: “Louis, Gus, Louie, Ned, Liam, Guy, Edward, Will, George, Jasper and Jack, you have finally made it! Hopefully you will look back on your years in the House with pride and satisfaction. Louis and Gus, you have led your peers and the House with compassion and empathy. At times this has
been challenging for the two of you and I thank you for your support. To the entire Year 13 group, thank you for your leadership and for the support you have given the House staff. Gents, you were each presented with a compass key ring. Why the points of a compass? Life is a journey and we need to live each day to the best that we can. The way in which we live will determine the outcome and our destination. In other words, the journey will take care of the outcome or destination. I wish you all the best for all your future endeavours and I know you will be able to use the skills you have gained to face the numerous challenges and changes you will meet in the “real world”. I hope you will take some very fond
memories away with you. As a group, you have cemented some very strong friendships that I am sure you will maintain. You have also gained a number of tools over the years – compassion, honesty, respect, spirituality, stewardship, learning, empathy, service and justice. Use these tools and continue to fill your toolbox as you move along your journey into independence and your future. Embrace your new beginning and remember where you have come from and what sacrifices have been made to get you to this point. “Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think [and do] such things.” Philippians 4:8” Finally, I would like to say thank you to the following for their contribution to the House this year: Vicky, Kerri and Carolyn, our awesome domestic team, who keep the House spick and span; Philippa, the seamstress, for all the sewing and mending; Assistant Housemasters Kate Morris and Nick Sutcliffe for all the work they have done, particularly with their mentor groups; Richard Goodwin, Rebekah Wood and Vincent Kenworthy, for your help as non-residential tutors.
